CAESAR II :

PROJECT EXECUTION AND PROJECT

SETUP FILES/FOLDERS
Project Execution:
Pipe Stress Engineer’s Activities
1. Prepare and Issue Pipe Stress Analysis Procedure

2. Prepare and Issue Critical Line Index

3. Prepare and Issue Standard Pipe Supports

4. Prepare and Issue Special Pipe Supports

5. Perform pipe stress analysis for critical system as specified in No.1 and No.2

6. Review and comment piping isometric drawing about stress point of view and
pie support requirement to align with No.1 to No.5.

7. Prepare and Issue Datasheets / Material Requisition, Technical Bid Evaluate for
Engineered Pipe Support

1. Variable / Constant Effort Spring Supports

2. Low Friction Sliding Pads (PTFE)

3. Rubber / Metallic Expansion Joints

4. Etc.

8. Prepare and Issue Pipe Stress Analysis Reports

Project Execution:
Pipe Stress Analysis Procedure
- The procedure provides basis in pipe stress analysis with minimum
requirements for each piping system in the project.
- The procedure should include:
• International Standards & Codes
• Method to classify critical piping system
• Setup data
o Unit
o Static seismic loads
o Wind ratio and wind Profile
o Ambient temperature
o Insulation density
o Friction factor
o Spring table and variable spring limitation
o Maximum pipe deflection between two support
o General nozzle force and moment allowable for vessel and
heat Exchanger
o General Load case and Special consideration load case
Project Execution:
Pipe Stress Critical Line List
‘Critical Line List’ is developed from Process’s Line List. Stress
engineer should be indicated as below list.

1. All lines may be classified into stress critical grades as method

provided in Pipe Stress Analysis Procedure unless otherwise noted
by client.
For Example
• “C” – Detailed analysis by program computer
• “A” - Approximation method to be applied.
• “V” - Engineering judgment (Visual check)

2. Calculation no. and system description.

Project Execution:
Guideline Method to Classify Critical Piping System
• A formal flexibility analysis can be performed on all of the following piping
systems which will be classified to stress critical grade “A” or “C”

o For all piping system shown below:

 Pipe size 4” NPS to 14” NPS with operating above 175 °C
 Pipe size 16” NPS to 18” NPS with operating above 120 °C
 Pipe size 20” NPS and larger
o Process pipe size 3” NPS and above if connected to rotating equipments
o Pipe connected to air-cooled exchangers
o Pipe connected to and from boiler and fire heater
o Flare pipe 4” NPS and larger
o Jacketed piping
o Pipe subjected to relief valve reaction load
o Cryogenic piping system (below -46 °C)
o Pipes NPS 3 and larger in very toxic service operating at temperatures above
200 °C.
