Introduction

 Choosing the right solar module support method involves understanding a variety of
environmental factors such as soil conditions, geographic location, and regional wind
speeds to name a few.
 Other important factors that need to be considered include soil
mechanics such as consolidation, permeability and seepage, bearing capacity, lateral earth
pressure, slope stability, as well as wind engineering to determine potential forces or loads
that the solar module installation will be subject to, based on panel size, panel weight,
geographic orientation, etc.
 Each of these factors needs to be carefully considered for each and every solar system
installation of the system.
 Solar modules are being installed without giving the proper consideration to the
environmental and engineering factors related to the project. This is a failure waiting to happen.

LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE OF AREA

 Latitude :-

The equator is the 0º latitude. The north hemisphere is divided from 0º to 90º (or 0º to N90º).
The south hemisphere is divided from 0º to -90º (or 0º to S90º)

LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE OF AREA

 Longitude :-

The line of 0º is the prime meridian (it can also be called meridian of Greenwich, because it
passes at Greenwich, in England).
To east the earth is divided from 0º to 180º (or 0º to E180º). To west the earth is divided
from 0º to -180º (or 0º to W180º).

TILT ANGLE

 Tilt Angle :-

To maximize the output of the solar power system, especially in PV Solar Array applications,
the optimal tilt angle is typically specified for non tracking systems, remains fixed.

SOIL TEST REPORT

 Soil Test Report :-

Soil Test Report of the site should be done for to know strength of the soil for the structure
foundation.
Soil corrosivity and resistivity testing.

TERRAIN AND CONTOUR OF LAND

 Terrain & Contour of land :-

The contour is a smart approach it is both economical and a quick way to install
structures when compared to grading or levelling activity.

SOLAR INSOLATION AND SHADOW ASSESMENT

 Solar Insolation & Shadow Assesment:-

Solar radiation assessment is a critical activity for setting up solar projects.

The electrical output of PV panels changes nearly instantaneously as the solar
radiation incident on the panels changes.

www.sterlingandwilson.com
WIND

 Wind:-

To Study and measure the load exerted by the wind on a solar panel structure with
regards to its geometrical configurations and the wind environment into which it is
situated.
To investigate and understand the mechanisms by which the wind impacts and effects
a panel structure.

TEMPERATURE

 Temperature:-
The temperature variation effects on the efficiency of the power generation
Photovoltaic solar panel power production works most efficiently in cold temperatures
Cold, sunny environments provide optimal operating conditions for solar panels
It may seem counter-intuitive, but solar panel efficiency is affected negatively by
temperature increases.

THE EFFECTS OF SNOW

 Effects of Snow :-

The positive effects of low temperatures on solar panel power production in colder
climates can be countered by clouds and snow that decrease solar panel efficiency.

www.sterlingandwilson.com
THE EFFECTS OF CLOUDS

 Effects of Clouds :-

When the sun is not shining which is usually the case when it's Cloudy.
No solar energy in means no solar energy out, just like night time,
due to this power generation may decreases.

www.sterlingandwilson.com
RAIN FALL

 Rain fall :-

Rain fall effects on solar panels due to this power generation may decrease,
If there is rain in the day time, it doesn't mean there is dark or night. If the light is
available (not direct sunlight) it means photons are available than solar will definitely
work. Solar gives 40–50% efficiency in rain and fog.

WATER AVAILABILITY

 Water Availability :-

We need water availability near the solar plant, Because we need the
water for cleaning the solar modules, therefore. We can increase our generation.
But in the market many robotics technology available but they are much costlier.
There for we prefer water to clean the modules.

www.sterlingandwilson.com
ELECTRICAL SWITCHYARD AND LOADING CRITERIA

 Switchyard & Loading :-

Nearest Sub-Station for power evacuation, and full detail of the sub station.
Evacuation substation loading and distribution capacity need to be checked
We need to check weather existing bay can we able to use or not, if not for new bay
constructing space is there or not, and at same time we have to check in control room space
availability for mounting new panel,

www.sterlingandwilson.com
TRANSPORTATION

 Transportation :-

The minimum distance between site to National high way, and approach road for site has to be there
for the container movement for transporting equipment's to site.
And railway station to site distance also need to check how far it is.

National Highway Approach Road

MAN POWER AVAILABILITY

 Man Power Availability :-

There should be surplus man power availability for execute our civil works and installation of the
Plant, On low cost basis. So there would be less chances of time delay for setting up solar plant.

www.sterlingandwilson.com
AVAILABILITY OF CIVIL VENDOR’S

 Civil Vendor’s:-

Near to site there should be civil material vendor’s to be available, because any urgent
civil material is required means we can able buy from them .

CHALLENGES WHLE SITE SELECTION

 Challenges While site selection:-

Natural factors.
Human factors.
Engineering features.
Grid connection.
Contractor’s selection.
Extreme weather events.
Data acquisition.
Security.
House keeping.
Environment, Healthy & Safety.
Stakeholder management.

RESULT AND RECOMMENDATIONS

 Result :-

Once site visit is done, we need to submit site visit report.

 Recommendations :-

Once site visit is done, if we have any recommendation regarding site we can recommend.
