• Students wait outside of the classroom in a straight line until Ms.

Morales welcomes
students. Students put backpacks in cubbies and order their lunch. Students write daily
assignments in their agendas, practice vocabulary, high frequency words and spelling words.

Wharton Cares
• Wharton Cares is an incentive program designed to positively reinforce and encourage all students to
follow school procedures, engage in socially desirable behavior, or act in a caring way towards
another child or adult. Students will receive Wharton Cares Cards when they are “caught doing
something good.” Once a month, ten (10) cards will be pulled from the box and those students will
receive rewards.
Punch Cards
• Students will earn hole punches for being respectful, responsible and safe. Once students complete their
punch card, they will be able to choose one prize from the rewards menu. No more than 2 hole punches
will be earned a day. Completed punch cards will be turned into the office and will be used towards
earning a school wide incentive.

Attendance Hereo
• Students’ perfect attendance will help the class earn prize.
Bucket Filler
• Students who are caught “filling up someone’s bucket”
will earn the chance to eat lunch with Mrs. Bridgehouse every cycle.

Language Arts
• Lessons will be structured (I Do, We Do, You Do) to provide students with opportunities to practice the skills
learned daily. Student expectations are: be an active listener and participant, be prepared, and be your best.
Descubre el Español Level C
• Students learn and study Spanish as they travel together with Anna and Charlie to eight different Spanish-speaking
countries and learn about their cultures. The Spanish lesson themes and topics for this level include cultural
traditions in Mexico, seasons in Uruguay, animals in Ecuador, and celebrations in Guatemala. Throughout this
level students acquire and develop enough Spanish vocabulary and Spanish grammar to discuss these and other
themes, as well as ask and answer questions about them.
Math
• PRE-ASSESMENT-Students will take the unit review as a pre-assessment.
Based on a 90% performance score on the unit pre-assessment, students will…
Work independently to complete lesson assignments in math workbook.
Work on individualized advanced math skills plan on SUMDOG.
Build their mathematical fluency by working on Xtramath.
Build their mathematical writing abilities by writing mathematical stories.
Math Students will check in with the teacher daily, by turning in their work.
Students who are unable to perform at a 90% or better on a particular lesson or whole
unit pre-assessment will…
Participate in math daily routines.
Participate in whole class discussions and whole class lessons.
Show understanding of content by completing math journal pages in small group with
teacher.
Build their mathematical fluency by working on Xtramath.
Build their mathematical writing abilities by writing mathematical stories.
Work on an individualized math skills plan on SUMDOG.

Thursday Folders-Students will be provided with a Thursday Folder for any parent notes, or
school flyers. The Thursday Folder must be returned the following week before new
papers/flyers must go out. Flyers and parents notes will also be posted on classdojo.
Agenda-READING-Students read daily for 30 minutes. They will record the book titles and
steps in their agendas. At the end of the week, they will choose one book to write about in their
agendas. The teacher will record the student’s POWER GOAL and words to work on in their
agenda. Any worksheets for extra practice will be found in the color folder.

Classroom Materials-All students will be responsible for their own materials. Each subject will
have a color folder and notebook.

Red-Spanish
Orange-Writing

All classroom rules are expected to be followed outside of the classroom. Students will
follow the Wharton Wildcat Way in all areas of the school.

Emergency Procedures
Fire Drill/Fire-Students will line up at the playground.
Evacuation-Students will walk with their teacher to a safe location. Parents will be notified
by administration the designated pick up area.
Intruder- The school will lock down. Parents will be notified by the administration with
details.
Incliment Weather- Students will seek refuge in an area where there are no windows.
Bus Riders
All students who travel to and from Wharton Elementary School by bus must follow important
safety rules, the most important of which are to:
~Remain seated while the bus is in motion;
~Be respectful to the driver and courteous to other passengers.
~ In addition, school rules and expectations are in effect on the bus and at the bus stops. Bus
drivers are authorized to report student misconduct to the Principal. Please note that
misconduct may result in loss of bus-riding privileges. The bus stop assigned to your child is a
permanent one. Please do not request that changes in your child's bus stop be made even on a
temporary basis. Also, please do not request that your son or daughter who is assigned to a
bus be permitted to walk to or from home. For safety reasons, bus students must use bus
transportation to and from school. Walkers are not permitted to ride the bus.

Walkers/Car Riders
Dismissal Locations are as follows:
2nd-5th grade- dismissed through the side entrance (old entrance) on Mary Street.

If your child normally rides a bus and you plan to pick them up instead, please send a note to
school or contact teacher via classdojo before 2:30pm.
If you are sending someone who does not typically pick your child up, please send a note to
school and be sure the person has proper identification.
