Technical Education and Skills Development Authority TESDA The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is the government agency tasked to manage and supervise technical education and skills development (TESD) in the Philippines. It was created by virtue of Republic Act 7796, otherwise known as the “Technical Education and Skills Development Act of 1994”. TESDA TESDA sets direction, promulgates relevant standards, and implements programs geared towards a quality-assured and inclusive technical education and skills development and certification system. A Computer Systems Servicing (CSS) student should know how to behave when working in the computer laboratory, as well as implement a safe way of accomplishing every task. OHS Occupational Health and Safety refers to the legislation, policies, procedures and activities that aim to protect the health, safety and welfare of all people at the workplace. It is a health and safety program which is a definite plan of action designed to prevent accidents and occupational diseases. OHS Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is about protecting workers from harm at work. This includes protecting workers from: death and injury (safety) disease and illness (health) 12 OHS Procedures (1) Do not work alone so that there's someone who can take care of you in case of emergency. (2) Always power off the computer and unplug the computer before working on it. (3) Take away any liquid near your working area to avoid getting electrocuted or accidentally damaging computer parts. (4) Be careful with tools that may cause short circuit. (5) Always ground or discharge yourself before touching any part of the computer. (6) Do not use excessive force if things don't quite slip into place. (7) Clean the area before and after using it to maintain sanitation and prevent accidents. (8) Hold the components on the edges and do not touch the Integrated Circuit (IC) parts. (9) Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with the organization's OHS procedures and practices. (10) Make sure that the pins are properly aligned when connecting a cable connector. (11) Contingency measures during workplace accidents, fire and other emergencies are recognized. (12) Use brush, compressed air or blower in cleaning the computer system. Students need to be aware of the type of hazards that are possibly present in their work environment and here are the procedures: (1) Identify the hazard. (2) Clear the area close to the hazard. (3) Partition the hazard off or clearly identify the area to protect other people from harm. (4) If the hazard is can be easily and safely cleared, then do so. (5) Report the hazard to the appropriate person (such as teacher in charge, principal etc.) to obtain assistance. (6) After clearing of the hazard, fill out the correct documentation to assist in identifying improved practice to reduce further incidence of hazards. Quiz
