Day 1 (January 15)
Today is our first day of internship. When I first entered the ward, I expected a lot of patients but to my
surprise, there were more interns than patients. My first day was just really for adjusting and observing
because I wasn’t sure of anything. I was afraid that with just one little mistake, I may trigger a patient’s
behaviour. This day I learned that we prepare activities everyday as their occupational therapy. For
today’s activity, we observed other interns how they facilitate an arts and crafts activity. The patients
made planners from scratch. It’s nice to see their plans and how artsy they are but it also gave me an
uneasy feeling when I saw some of their plans include when they will die like they really plan to do it.

Day 2 (January 17)

I joined the morning zumba with the patients today. Ma’am Cecil caught my attention because she is
really persistent in attending the zumba everyday knowing that she has been in the ward for quite a
long time. For today’s OT, we did coffee painting. It’s amazing to see how patients express their
creativity with just coffee and an illustration board. I was amazed by Sir Ian’s work because I didn’t
know that he can draw that well. In the afternoon, med interns from Ateneo facilitated a game. The
patients were so happy to play the game and I can really see that they were enjoying even to you an
really see the generation gap.
Day 3 (January
As usual, we danced to the beats very early in the morning with Ma’am Cecil and Ma’am Via. I was thankful
18)
that the OT for this morning is just newspaper reading because zumba is very tiring. I observed that the
generation gap affects the decision of patients on whether they will attend OT or not. I invited Ma’am Via to
read the newspaper for OT but she refused because she said “puro matatanda.” In the afternoon, it was our
first time to facilitate an activity. We made brownies from scratch. I was nervous because the patients were
not that responsive and Ma’am Karen and Ma’am Nicole were kind of intimidating. We successfully
facilitated the activity but the brownies were very cakey and did not meet the patients’ expectations though
it tasted good.
Day 4 (January
Since we are the main facis of the week, our group led the morning zumba. I noticed that other patients
19)
are not into dancing so I thought that before doing the zumba proper, I gave a quick stretching routine
for everyone. Sir Will liked it and also tried to join the zumba proper. For the morning OT, we played
Pictionary. It was a bit chaotic because some patients don’t follow their group’s strategies but even so, it
ended well. In the afternoon, it was our first time to sing in the karaoke with the patients. Today’s
highlight is Sir Ian’s wonderful voice singing to Coldplay hits. I think I’ll forever remember his voice
whenever I’ll hear Coldplay.
Day 5 (January 22)
It’s a tradition for the psych interns to throw a party whenever someone leaves and someone comes so
for today, we celebrated as the psych ward welcomed us and bid farewell to the first set of interns. The
patients were very cooperative while we were doing the decorations for the afternoon’s program. Ma’am
Nicole was mesmerized how the decorations turned out. She was also very happy for this farewell and
welcome party also marks her last day in the ward. The party was fun in general but as one of the hosts
of the event, I had a hard time hyping the audience because the patients are not that responsive. Even
so, I saw that they appreciated what we prepared for them and I’m glad that they did.

Day 6 (January 24)

I am really happy today because the patients really liked our activity. Our group facilitated stress ball making using
balloons and cornstarch mixture. Even though it’s very simple, the patients loved the activity that they made more than
one each! What I also liked about the outcome of our activity is that the patients, especially Sir Will, actually use their
DIY stress balls to release their stress. It makes me happy whenever Sir Will comes inside the OT room and asks if he
could use his work. It makes me think that the goals of our activity are really achieved. For the second OT activity, we
played Taboo with the patients. We are also the facilitators of the game. It gave me a hard time dealing with the players
because Ma’am Karen keeps on asking questions and it seemed like she wanted to play the game her way. As an intern,
I dealt with the situation calmly and approached Ma’am Karen assertively.
Day 7 (January
Today’s census went up to 19 (or 20? I lost count.) It was the highest census in the ward we experienced since we started our
25)
internship. Yes, it was a bit chaotic but I can really say that it’s fun. Chaotic because since we have a larger population in the ward,
it got crowded and us, interns, should adjust in a way that the patients won’t feel irritated on how crowded the ward is. Fun
because this batch of patients are more “bagets”. There’s still the generation gap but I can see that the millennial patients get
along together and have their own fun way of entertaining themselves, avoiding boredom. While newspaper reading, I had a chat
with Ma’am Kate, Ma’am Dani, Sir Ben and Ma’am Shei about beauty pageants. It feels so nice to chat with people having the
same likes as yours. In the afternoon, we baked carrot cake for the OT activity. We are the main facis for today. It was a bit hard to
faci a large population but we are very thankful to Ma’am Kate for helping us group themselves and assign people to each station.
It was my first time to bake carrot cake and I’m happy that it turned out great.

Day 8 (January
We started the day full of energy, thanks to Ma’am Kate. Even though we already invited the patients, she invited them
26)
again and brought her copatients to the atrium to dance with us. The atrium was full of people dancing with smiles on
their faces. Interns from Ateneo facilitated the morning OT activity. They made lots of French toast and I’m so touched
because the patients insisted to share their food with us even though we refused until the end  It was just so happy
making French toast while exchanging jokes and laughs with the Ateneo med interns and patients. As expected,
afternoon karaoke time was lit! Since we have a younger census, the songs are more lively and updated so we can relate.
We really had an amazing time singing along with them.
Day 9 (January 28)
Time seemed to move so slow today. I’m not sure if it’s just because I’m not used to wake up early on
Sundays or psych ward is just too chill and calm. Zumba was held in the dining hall because atrium
was closed due to unforeseen circumstance last Friday. It’s just a normal day in the ward, the patients
groomed their selves in the morning and watched a nice movie in the afternoon.

Day 10 (January
The atrium is still closed and the ward is getting crowded more and more each day. The zumba is still held
29)
inside the dining hall. The reason why the atrium was closed was already endorsed to us. We had to deal
with lots of complaints from the patients because they wanted to get some fresh air but the atrium was
closed. We also had our very first ward meeting today. The meeting involved all the interns, doctors, patients
and watchers. I was really nervous that time because I didn’t know what was happening and I thought that
the interns will be scolded. We had a meeting regarding the rules and regulations inside the ward and the
doctors oriented the patients about the current situation we’re in. The doctors said that closing the atrium
will be everyone’s sanction and it won’t be open again until further notice.
Day 11 (January
All of the activities were still done inside. I was feeling a bit uncomfortable with the situation because it’s so
31)
crowded I feel like the patients are already feeling irritated. They start to feel like they are watched especially Sir
Jet. On the other hand, the mosaic making facilitated by my classmates were successful because the patients liked
it and they created a wonderful artwork that reminds me of my favourite childhood show, Art Attack.

Day 12 (February
I was really challenged by this day. The interns had a problem with the zumba files so in order to proceed
1)
with the zumba, I led the dancing proper and had a blast with the patients! Contrary to my expectations, the
patients really enjoyed my “mini zumba concert” haha thanks to my confidence level, I was able to get
through it and finish the first part of our morning activities leaving smiles and satisfaction of patients. Since
the atrium is still closed, the ward still seemed to be crowded. Even so, the situation didn’t stop us to build
rapport with the patients. Sir Tonet is drawn to me because I answer his Physics related problems. I actually
enjoyed answering his physics problems because in return, he taught me basic engineering concepts.
Day 13 (February 2)
It’s been a week after the atrium has been off limits and it still hasn’t opened. All the activities were still done inside. For
today’s morning OT activity, the med interns from Ateneo facilitated. They made steamed and fried dumplings. The
activity was very messy because they had to do each steps by hand. Ma’am Beth was a bit problematic pax because she
grabbed the ingredients and made it looked like very unappetizing. After the morning OT, we were kind of annoyed
because the Ateneo med interns just left the OT room very dirty and messy. They didn’t even washed the dishes and tools
they used in cooking. We were really upset about what they did but what can we do? They already left so we just took the
initiative to do the cleaning. We had our karaoke time in the afternoon. It is Ma’am Karen’s last day in the ward so we bid
farewell to her. It was such a great timing because karaoke time seemed like it’s her “despedida” party. The patients
enjoyed the karaoke and I am shocked to hear Ma’am Abby’s belting out some high notes.

Day 14 (February
At last! Atrium is back! Patients seemed to really miss the Atrium because many of them attended the
5)
zumba. We really missed the Atrium too! At last, the ward has been back to normal and decongested.
Today’s OT activity is paper twining. Another first happened today. While doing the activity, Ma’am Abby
had an attack in front of us. Though we were able to handle the situation calmly, thoughts are running in my
mind what was happening. It was the first time something like that happened in front of me in the ward.
Day 15
There is a new batch of interns who came by the ward today. As usual, they held a welcome party as well as
(February 7)
farewell party for the batch of interns who just finished their internship. For the morning OT activity, we just
prepared for the afternoon party together with the patients. The party went well and the patients liked the food.

Day 16 (February
It’s nice to see new faces dancing in zumba time. 11)
I’m quite entertained by Sir Lance because even though he
can’t follow the steps accurately, he tried his best on dancing. Today is Ma’am Paula’s last day. I assisted her
with the shaver and I’m touched when she said to me that she’ll remember me as the “Jabbawockeez”. She
started to call me by that name when we had a flash drive problem and I led the zumba with all my might.
It’s very heart warming when the patients remember you and tell you they will miss you. 
Day 17 (February 14)
Happy Valentine’s Day! (in the ward ) today’s kinda different because I got to celebrate hearts day inside the
ward with the patients. I was really drawn to Ma’am Beth today because she kept on saying that Jesus is her
date and her only love this Valentine ’s Day. What a sweetheart! For today’s OT, we made dreamcatchers. It
was a very intricate craftwork but the patients had been very patient and hardworking to finish their work.

Day 18 (February
Loud screams can be heard as Ma’am Abby 15) searched for one of my classmates. Ma’am Abby has been
extremely drawn to Jenesis recently. She has been saying inappropriate things and being aggressive when
she’s not catered attention which made it very difficult to handle especially for her watcher. In spite of all the
ward madness, OT activities today, newspaper reading and macaroons baking was facilitated very well. The
macaroons was loved by the patients to the point where they even asked for more even though they ran out of
finished baked goods.
Day 19 (February 16)
It’s Chinese New Year and I should be celebrating and greeting my Chinese friends Kung Hei Fat Choi but things
just get so crazy living life gets hard to do. While on my way home to Medical City, I was very unfortunate to be
seated side by side by a guy who doesn’t even know what respect means. It caused me to breakdown and my
whole body was shaking and numb even after we arrived inside the ward. I was really drained and unfocused so
Ms. Alice brought me to the employee’s lounge so I can relax and call my parents. I was hoping I’ll be okay by
lunch but my body wasn’t cooperating well so my parents fetched me and called it a day.

Day 20 (February
It was a peaceful Sunday at the ward. 5 patients joined Zumba. As usual, every Sunday morning is grooming
18)
time. Almost all of them went inside the OT room to groom themselves. Sir Tonet asks me to solve Physics
problems but I declined. Little did I know, he will be discharged that day. He’s one of the patients who truly
left a mark in my heart and I will surely miss him. In the afternoon, we just watched a movie and gladly, the
patients enjoyed it.
Day 21 (February 19)
We started the day being jolly in Zumba because 5 patients joined. After Zumba, we helped our cointerns
prepare for the mask making activity for the arts and crafts OT. The activity really showed their creativity. I was
amazed how they utilized the materials provided to create such beautiful masks.

Day 22 (February
We have patients from the private rooms upstairs who joined the OT today. Ma’am Joie and Sir Carlo went to
15)
the ward to join our activity. I believe they enjoyed doing the balloon bowl activity which we facilitated
because the smiles on their faces say so. The activity was divided into two parts. First, they did the paper
mache in the morning. We let it dry outside during lunchtime but it did not dry as expected. Even so, we
proceeded to designing their work and the patients expressed their creativity once again.
Day 23 (February 22)
Our day started kinda slow because Ma’am Cecil is the only one who attended the morning Zumba. The activity
for this morning is newspaper reading. Ma’am Joie and Sir Carlo joined us again for today’s activity. In the
afternoon, we baked brownies from scratch. We facilitated the activity. I really enjoy when we facilitate baking
activities because I really love baking. The patients liked the recipe ad fortunately, the end product tastes
delicious.

Day 24 (February
As an intern who joins Zumba everyday,23) I feel really happy to see that Ma’am Lita is finally joining this
activity. It’s such an improvement. Before, she gets tremors when she sees people going near her and trying to
interact with but now, she’s trying her best to conquer her fears and even joins Zumba! It’s a Friday so we
played the singing bee before lunch. It’s really nice to see patients singing and enjoying the game because it
seems like they were warming up before the karaoke time and some are having their nostalgia due to some
categories of the game. The afternoon karaoke time was so fun because patients enjoyed singing plus the girls
sang all the Disney songs we have in our flashdrive.
Day 25 (February 24)
I liked how active the patients are today. 6 patients attended the Zumba and they were all energetic! It was my
first time to have a Saturday duty so I volunteered to be the announcer for today’s bingo game. It’s lovely to see
patients enjoy the game and be competitive with each other. In the afternoon, we watched a movie and it was
touching that Ma’am BL said that she attended the movie time because it was her last day and that she will
miss us all.

Day 26 (February
The census went up today so there were new patients who joined us in Zumba. Today was just a typical
25)
Sunday morning. The patients groomed themselves in the morning while we watched movie in the afternoon.
The title of the movie was Wonder. It was a very touching and inspiring. The patients liked it to the point
where some patients shed some tears upon watching touching scene.
Day 27 (February 26)
We started the day with all-girls Zumba. We were the facilitators today and i am the main instructor. Today’s
activity is DIY friendship bracelets. This activity is by far one of the most challenging activities ever. I can really see
the patients trying their best to weave and design each bracelet. I assisted Sir Carlo and Sir Will. I’m so touched
that they were really thankful to me because I was so patient in helping and teaching them create their own
bracelets. My heart is overflowing with happiness when patients express their gratitude to me.

Day 28 (February
Today is extra special for our batch because today is our farewell party. We prepared a lot of special events for the
28)
patients starting from a production number, to parlor games with loot bags as prizes and we even had a recognition
ceremony. The patients helped in making the calendar in the morning while we prepare the atrium for the afternoon’s
event. I hosted the farewell party and I’m glad that the audience was hyped and very responsive. The highlight of this
day was the recognition ceremony. We prepared certificates of appreciation for each patient in the ward. That part was
the best because we can clearly see the smile on their faces as we award them their certificates of appreciation. As the
host, telling them how they create an impact to us, how they help us be a better person by giving us words of wisdom
and how they give us hope make my heart so full of joy. I wanted to capture those smiles on camera but unfortunately,
we can’t use our phones while on duty so being resourceful interns, we used the CCTV as if it was a live telecast camera.
Today was so fun I didn’t wanna end this day!
Day 29 (March 1)
It was kinda awkward to start this day because everyone was asking why we were still there for they thought it was our last
day yesterday. We explained that we needed to extend for three days because we had sanction. We had to extend for
another three days because of unforeseen event. I actually want to just finish my duty hours but when I see our patients
especially Sir Will who already grew fond of us, it actually makes me want to stay for a little bit longer. It’s a Thursday so
the patients just read newspaper in the morning and in the afternoon, they made their own pizza bread. Ma’am Beth was
acting really cute because pizza bread is her favorite. While waiting for her breads to bake, she was sharing to us her
stories when she was in Canada. When I leave TMC, Ma’am Beth will also be one of the patients I will surely miss.

Day 30 (March 2)
This day’s activity was facilitated by Ateneo med interns. The activity was baking chocolate chip cookies. The activity was
fun because I love baking. I can also see that that patients enjoyed the activity. They decorated their own cookies and I
saw how creative they are. After the patients made all their cookies, the Ateneo med interns gave us the chance to make
our own cookies. Best part!! Eating!! <3 In the afternoon, we had our karaoke time. Patients were not that interested in
singing except for Ma’am Diane (she’s a choir member, indeed), Sir Jeff, and Ma’am Cecil. I’m really happy to hear
Ma’am Cecil to sing in the karaoke because she always gets cut off when she attempts to sing in the past few days. She
told us that she enjoyed singing dancing queen with us.
Day 31 (March 4)
This is the last day of our 3-day sanction. As usual Sunday morning, the patients groomed themselves and we
watched movie in the afternoon. The title of the movie we watched was Coco. It was an animated movie but it will
surely melt your heart. It was family-oriented and very culturally-aligned with Mexico. Some of the patients
watched the movie already but since the movie has great reviews, the watched it again with us. As expected, many
were touched and some even shed some tears.

Day 32 (March
THE REAL LAST DUTY OF OUR TRAINING! At last, we have 7) come to this point! Since I already finished my
sanction, I only had a half-day duty today. It was very timely because we have a new set of interns from
Batangas and they had their welcome party today (yey for free food!) Since it’s really our last duty, the
patients surprised us with a little production number. Sir Jeff, Sir Christian and Sir Will performed in front of
us as they bid farewell to us. These moments makes me wanna stay a little longer but this time, I really have
to go and finish my last day of duty. Thank you TMC! <3

SlidesCarnival icons are editable shapes.
This means that you can:
Resize them without losing quality, change fill color
and opacity and change line color, width and style.

Isn’t that nice? :)

Now you can use any emoji as an icon!
And of course it resizes without losing quality and
you can change the color.
