Introduction
 Process valves control a
wide variety of fluids
such as air, water,
nitrogen, food products,
carbon dioxide, acids,
alkalis, fuels, solvents,
superheated steam, dry
ice and many others
 Valves are used to shut
off, distribute or combine
fluid flow for normal
processing and safety
functions
Introduction
 Process valves control
the flow of many types of
fluid these can be:
 Liquids
 Gasses (including air)
 Vapours
 The fluids can be:
 Neutral, (water or air)
 Aggressive, (acids)
 Hot or cold , (steam or
dry ice)
Operating conditions
 Valves may be required to
operate in:
 Sub zero refrigeration
units
 Desert heat
 Highly explosive
environments, for
example a flour mill
 Radio-active zones in
nuclear plant
Operating conditions
 To meet this wide range  Body and seal material
of fluid types and  Operating method, air or
environmental conditions, solenoid
valves can be selected  Solenoid type and
from a variety of designs protection rating
and detail specifications:
2/2 Valve Types
2/2 Valves
 2/2 valves have two ports
(inlet and outlet) and two
positions (open or
closed)
 Typical valve types:

 Orifice size 5 or 10mm
 port sizes G1/4 or G1/2
Direct solenoid principle (NC)
 2/2 valve has an inlet and
outlet port and two
positions, open or closed
 Energise the coil to lift the
armature to open the
valve, for low pressures
the orifice can be large,
for high pressures it
needs to be smaller
 When the coil is de-
energised a spring seals
the core against the
orifice (normally closed)
 Wet core design

Direct solenoid actuation 2/2
 For neutral gases and
liquids
 Normally closed and
normally open versions
 Maximum pressure 4 to
50 bar dependant on
orifice diameter
 Suitable for vacuum
 Orifice sizes 1.5mm to
6mm diameter
 Options 24V dc,
24V 110V 230V ac
 Brass body
Direct solenoid principle (NO)
 2/2 valve normally open
has an inlet and outlet
port and two positions,
closed or open
 Energise the coil to lift the
armature to allow the
sprung loaded poppet
seat to close
 When the coil is de-
energised the sprung
loaded armature pushes
the seat open

Diaphragm seat valves 2/2
 Solenoid pilot operated
diaphragm
 Wide range of port sizes
G1/4 : G 2
 Orifice sizes 8 mm : 50 mm
 Extensively used for
water control and other
neutral liquids and gases
 Standard coil options 24V
dc, 24V, 110V, 230V ac
Diaphragm operated 2/2
 Solenoid pilot operated
for higher flow
 The upstream pressure
(0.5 bar min) bleeds
through the diaphragm to
seal the valve closed
 When the solenoid is ON
the fluid escapes to the
downstream side opening
the diaphragm
 The solenoid is turned off
to re-establish the closed
state

Solenoid with force lifting 2/2
 Stainless steel
construction for
moderately aggressive
gasses and liquids
 Port sizes G 1/4 : G 1/2
 Operating pressures 1 bar
: 10 bar
 Standard coil options
dc 24V 12 W.
ac 24V, 110V, 230V 13 VA
Solenoid with force lifting 2/2
 Solenoid performs a dual
function, pilot operation
and direct lifting of the
valve seat
 Will operate at zero
pressure differential
 Port sizes G1/4 : G1
 Orifice size 8 : 25 mm
 Max pressure 8 bar for dc
coils 16 bar for ac coils
 Standard coil options 24V
dc 18 W. 24V, 110V, 230V
ac 35 VA
Solenoid with forced lifting
 Two stage design suitable
for low to zero differential
pressures
 When the armature lifts,
the pilot valve is opened
to allow the primary
pressure to open the
diaphragm
 If the primary pressure is
very low, continued
movement of the
armature will directly lift
the diaphragm seat

Piston seat valve 2/2
 Powerful solenoid with
forced lifting and piston
seat for heavy duty use
 First stage opens pilot
orifice to release pressure
 Second stage assists
fluid pressure to open
main seat
 When the differential
between inlet and outlet
is low, the solenoid will
continue to lift the piston
to open the valve
