Empowerment: History
• Empowerment means sharing power in such a way that
individuals learn to believe in their ability to do the job.

• Sharing power with others makes everyone in the


organization more powerful.

Empowerment:
Definitions
• A management practice of sharing
information, rewards, and power with
employees so that they can take initiative
and make decisions to solve problems and
improve service and performance.

• Empowerment is based on the idea
that giving employees skills,
resources, authority, opportunity,
motivation, as well holding them
responsible and accountable for
outcomes of their actions, will
contribute to their competence and
satisfaction.

• Successful organizations promote a culture that
empowers employees and excels in product and service
quality.

• Cultures that emphasize empowerment and quality are


preferred by employees.

• Employee empowerment is a key to achieving quality
