address of the SMT PC is in the same network segment as the IP addresses
(192.168.0.72/255.255.255.0) of the BTS so that a maintenance channel on the BTS
side can be established.
Click OK to complete the settings

1.Run ping 192.168.0.72 via command prompt to verify the network connection between the computer
and the BTS.
The IP address of the BTS is 192.168.0.72.

• If the information similar to that in the following example is returned,

the SMT PC and the BBU can communicate normally.

• Pinging 192.168.0.72 with 32 bytes of data: Pinging 192.168.0.72 with 32 bytes of data:

• Ping statistics for 192.168.0.72: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

• If the SMT PC and the BBU fail to communicate, the possible reason is as follows:
• The GTMU is faulty.
• The Ethernet cable is faulty, or its connectors are loose.
• The Ethernet port on the SMT PC is faulty.
• The BTS is resetting.
• The IP address is incorrect.

Preparing the Files on the USB

In order for SW to be automatically downloaded from USB to BBU a preconfig script is required.
This is the same file as needed for the FTP upgrade procedure.

This should be on the USB already but below shows how it is prepared.

1. Create a pre-configuration script.

• Create a .txt, and name it as Precfg.ini. Then, add the following contents to this file:
• [PRECONFIG]
• ALL=GTMU|MRFU|UBRI
2. Save the pre-configuration file in ASCII mode.
3. Copy the file Precfg.ini to BTS3900 GSM Folder on the USB.

Extra details in notes attached.

Save the GBTS software package and configuration script under the specified path on the USB device

Page23
Upgrading Software using the USB stick

Before the USB stick is inserted check the GTMU Run LED. It should be flashing 1s on 1s off.
Ensure Transmission link is disconnected from BSC before attempting a local SW upgrade.

1. Insert the USB disk into the USB port on the GTMU, as shown in figure below.

Wait a few moments and watch the Run LED on the GTMU and the USB.

2. When the software begins to download, the Run LED will begin to flash rapidly 0.125s on 0.125s off.
At the same time the USB LED will do the same.
If this does not happen check the USB files are correct and retry.
Extended notes attached.

3. When the SW is downloaded the BTS will reset.

When the reset is complete and the BTS is stable you should see the following.

The GTMU Run LED should now be flashing 1s on 1s off.

The USB LED should be solid Green

This whole process will take 10-15 minutes

4. Pull out the USB disk from the BTS. The SW upgrade is complete.

Preparing the Files for FTP server SW download.

In order for the SW to be downloaded to the BBU a preconfig script is required.

This is the same file as needed for the USB upgrade procedure.
This should be created as below and stored in the FTP Server folder in BTSM
Ensure Transmission link is disconnected from BSC before attempting a local SW upgrade.

1. Create a pre-configuration script.

• Create a .txt, and name it as Precfg.ini. Then, add the following contents to this file:
• [PRECONFIG]
• ALL=GTMU|MRFU|UBRI
2. Save the pre-configuration file in ASCII mode.
3. Copy the file Precfg.ini to the FTP Server Folder in BTSM.

When the Config file is downloaded, the BTS will reset.

If it does not, then the config file could be incorrect. Please consult Huawei Engineer.
The GTMU must reset in order for the config to take effect.

When the reset is complete and the BTS is stable you should see the following.

The GTMU Run LED should now be flashing 1s on 1s off.

The USB LED should be solid Green

This whole process will take approx 5 minutes

4. Pull out the USB stick from the BTS. The Config File is now installed.

IMPORTANT.
The config file on the USB will only work once on the same GTMU. If you find you have an issue with
this please contact a Huawei Engineer.
