ENDOGENIC PROCESSES

ENDOGENIC PROCESSES
■ Refers to activities or phenomena that occur on the
Earth’s interior.
EARTH’S INTERNAL HEAT
■ Based on the structure and characteristics of the
layers of the earth, the inside of the planet is really
hot.
■ It has been estimated that the temperature of
earth’s core is around 5000˚C to 7000 ˚C.

WHERE DOES THIS HEAT COMES FROM?

WHERE DOES THIS HEAT COMES FROM?
■ It is believed that the Earth has been hot ever since
it was formed.
■ The process of forming the earth generated a large
amount of heat when the small particles that have
attracted one another started hitting each other with
great force.
WHERE DOES THIS HEAT COMES FROM?
RADIOACTIVE DECAY
■ Maintains the production of heat inside the earth.
■ Is the spontaneous breakdown of an atomic nucleus
resulting in the release of energy and matter from
the nucleus.
■ The radioactive elements within the planet, such as
uranium decays and produce heat in the process
GEOLOGIC PROCESSES
■ DIASTROPHISM
– The movements of plates.
– It deforms and alters the surface of the earth.
– It is a geological process that forms structures
such as mountains, valleys and plateaus on the
crust.

GEOLOGIC PROCESSES
■ MAGMATISM
– Is a geological process by which magma is
produced by melting of subsurface rocks
– formation and motion of magma under the
surface of the earth's crust.
– Magma is pushed upward by pressure through
vents and can reach the earth’s surface.
■MAGMA
– defined as molten rock found below the earth's
surface
– a Greek word meaning 'thick ointment.
■MAGMA COMPOSITION
-Magma is primarily a very hot liquid, which is
called a 'melt.'
-It is formed by melting of the upper mantle and
crust.

Only partial parts of mantle and crust melt because

they are not homogenous substances but rather
composed of several minerals.
■MAGMA COMPOSITION
-aside from composition, temperature
and pressure can also influence partial
melting.
- a large pool of magma known as
magma chamber can be found beneath the
surface of the earth.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE MAGMA IS FORMED?
Plutonism and Volcanism
■PLUTONISM
-Plutonism refers to the heated
processes occurring below the Earth’s
surface. The cooling of magma forms
rock which may eventually be exposed.
- This generated volcanic
rocks which rose molten from the
Earth's interior to form new land.
*PLUTON
-A pluton exposed at the Earth's
surface has had its overlying rock removed
by erosion. It may represent the deep part
of a magma chamber that once fed
magma to a long-vanished volcano

■VOLCANISM
-is part of the process of bringing
material from the deep interior of the
planet and spilling it forth on the
surface.
- refers to the expulsion of rock from
below the Earth’s surface resulting in the
formation of hills or mountains.
■VOLCANISM

■The two processes differ in
development yet are similar in
outcome since both lead to
landforms.
