Mainly used plastic material in our daily life in plastic

most of the liquid contained in the bottle

we throw n number of plastic bottle as waste every day

Rather than throwing these empty bottles indiscriminately

on our streets, drainage, canals and creating future problem to
the environment and endangering the ecosystem.

A German citizen name Andreas Froese founder of

can we reuse this ? "Eco-Tec" aound 2001 introduced a technology called "
BOTTLE BRICKS".
This technique is done in india , central and south
America.
This technology is building houses using empty
plastic bottles.
In Africa, the first bottle brick structure was built in Sabon
Yelwa village in the Northern part on Nigeria.

PET Bottle + Dirt & Rubble = BRICK

MATERIAL & CONSTRUCTION
CONSTRUCTO Materials
 plastic bottles bottles filled with dry sand or
 dry sand / construction waste construction waste.
 binder –(earth, clay, sawdust
and little cement) binder mixture

twine tied around the

neck of the bottles

Construction Methods
The empty plastics bottles are filled with dry sand or
construction waste.
it is placed on the binder mixture (which forms a bed) like rows
of blocks or bricks, while the gaps between bottles are filled with rubble
and cement to form a solid wall.
The bottles are aligned in straight or curve lines with the help of a
twine tied around the neck of the bottles when laid.
BENIFITS

 The structure is well insulated.

 It is inexpensive to construct compare to the structure made from
concretes and block or brick.
 It is 20 times stronger than bricks because of the compacted sand
inside the bottles and as such , it is said to resist both bullets and
earthquake.
 In hot climate region, this type of building is best, this is because the
"bottle bricks" buffers the house from intense heat.
 The bottle brick is fireproof.
 Reduces CO2 emissions from the non-usage of bricks (bricks need to
be baked there by release a large amount of CO2 into the air)
PROJECTS
Location: ecological house- Honduras
Description of the Process: Recycling process from
source classification to use in Bioconstruction and large-
scale production (1.5 tons per day) of compost and
vermiculture
Green roof

Wall made of
plastic bottles

Ecological House: house built with 8,000 bottles has solar

panel, abutment latrine and water heating system through
thermofusion and green roof; The latter allowed to test
the strength of the structure as it has a weight of 30 tons
and has been supported by the walls without any
alteration.
PROJECTS

Roman aqueduct: WATER TANK

replica of Roman aqueduct, different types CONSTRUCTION
of earth-based mix were used, allowed to
put approve the structural base with
pillars.
Location: India
Source of Project Financing: ECOTEC and College of
Engineering Trivandrum
Project Manager: Andreas Froese
Description of the Process: Research project to avoid cement in
the construction of rain storage tanks
Works Delivered: Rain Storage Tank
PROJECTS
IGLOO CONSTRUCTION :
construction of a single space
with green roof, which is presented as a
recreational option or temporary housing
in case of disaster or displacement.
Research on domes using
bottles

RESIDENCE BUILDING IN Nigeria :

About 14,000 bottles of uniform size are needed to
make a two-bedroom bottle-home.
The sand inside the bottles makes excellent insulation that helps keep
Nigeria’s tropical heat outside the walls of the house, and relative
coolness inside. In a region often wracked by violence, the sturdy walls
provide protection from stray bullets flying through the air. Moreover, for
a region of the world where money tends to be scarce, the houses are
estimated to cost 1/3 of a house made of concrete and bricks.
