VOLLEYBALL
SETTING
SERVE
A player stands behind the end line
and serves the ball, in an attempt to
drive it into the opponent’s court.
His or her objective is to make it
land inside the court; it is also
desirable to set the ball direction,
speed and acceleration so that it
becomes difficult for the receiver to
handle it properly.
Underhand Serve
Refers to whether the
player strikes the ball from
below at waist level.
The stance begins by
facing the target, then
taking a stride forward
with the leg on the non-
serving side.
Your feet should be about
shoulder width apart.
Underhand Serve
The serving action starts
with the ball in your non-
serving hand (the left hand
for right-handed servers.)
The ball is held with palm-
up, in front and outside of
the serving- side hip.
Overhand Serve
This serve has a
motion similar to the
act of throwing the
ball over the net.
First tosses the ball in
the air and then hits it
above shoulder level.
Overhand Serve
Your starting position is
facing the net with your
feet shoulder- width
apart and under your
shoulder.
For right handed serves,
the left foot will be
forward in a
comfortable stance. The
ball is held in both
hands at about chest to
shoulder height.
PASSING
Passingis used to denote the first
contact of a team after the ball
has crossed the net on a serve or
other type of hit.
Underarm Pass
Underarm pass or
bump, where the ball
touches the inside
part of the joined
forearms or platform
at waist line.
It is the most
frequently used skill
in the game of
volleyball.
Underarm Pass
It is, therefore, a
very important skill
and should be
learned first.
Overhand/overhead Pass
Where it is handled
with the fingertips like a
set above the head.
To set is to use the skill
of overhead passing to
put a ball for the spiker
to attack.
Overhand/overhead Pass
The overhead pass is
preferred to the
forearm pass because
there is more control
and is more accurate. It
may also used to deliver
a third contact over the
net to the opponent if
an attack is not
possoble.
SET
The set is usually the second contact that a
team makes with the ball. The main goal of
setting is to put the ball in the air in such a
way that it can be driven by an attack into
the opponent’s court.
