 There are so
many ideas that
the young minds
in the class can
dive into with
passion. So
before beginning
with the actual
project itself,
explore all
possibilities!
IDEA TIPS FOR
INVESTIGATORY
PROJECT
 1. Finding a good topic for an investigative
project can be tricky. The student has to be
interested in the subject to make it more
interesting for him or her. Here are a few
guidelines on how not only to find good topics
but also to determine if they are any good or
not.
 2. The topic should be something
interesting to the student.
 3. The student should be able to
conduct tests to find an answer to a
question regarding the topic. An
investigative project is, after all, not a
simple report or demonstration. A
good scientific project needs
experiment for validation purposes.
 4. To make the activity effective, it should
require little supervision from family
members or teachers. Having too many
people do the project for him or her takes
away the learning as well as the fun.
 5. It should not involve anything dangerous
or hurt people and animals.
 6. The project open doors for more things
the student would want to know.
 7. The World Wide Web is brimming with
research resources and investigative project
examples.
 8. For Physics, Chemistry, Meteorology and
Botany experiments, ScienceProject.com has
a lot to offer. Although it requires a fee to get
details on certain experiments, browsing
through the library is FREE and it brims with
possible project ideas.
 9. Another website,
FreeScienceFairProject.com, also contains
a lot of possible project ideas suitable for
students of different grade levels. And, the best
part is, the information is FREE!
HOW TO WRITE THE
METHODOLOGY OF AN
INVESTIGATORY PROJECT
What is SIP’s Methodology?
 This is where the action lies in the study
 This portion explains in a narrative style
the procedure of the
a. experiment
b. description of the materials used
c. method of gathering data

Materials/Equipment

Treatment/General
Procedure
RESEARCH PLAN(Methodology)-
This includes
 Materials and Equipment
This describes the materials/equipment,
methods and procedures used to attain
the final objective of the research paper.
List down all the materials, reagent,
chemicals, plants, animals and other
experimental units as well as equipment
that were used in performing the
experiment
 The exact technical specifications,
quantities and source of method of
preparation for all materials used should
be given, Specifically, built equipment
description used in the study must be
describe and the description accompanied
by pictures
 Treatment/General Procedure
The part describes the manner and
sequence by which each experiment or
set of observations were done and how
measurements were obtained.
 Describe the procedure in such a way that
anyone who is completely unfamiliar with your
topic or method will know exactly what you did.
Also should the reader desire to repeat your
research, he can easily do so.
 It is also important to cite the reference for the
methods or treatment you use and to describe in
detail any modification you introduced.
 You should also include the following: the number
of trials performed, the variables used and how
you gathered and organized the data.
REMEMBER!
 Diagrams, pictures and maps can be used
as guide in describing an experiment’s
process
 The methods should always be written in
the PAST TENSE. It is assumed that the
project has already been done.
 Avoid using the “recipe style” when
stating the step-by-step procedure.
REMEMBER!
 To achieve a successful methodology from
a scientific investigation, researcher must
prepare for it and lay-out a well-planned
experiment. This experiment should be
well recorded in such a way that other
researchers may understand them and be
able to repeat and improve on the work.
 Thus, an excellent research/investigatory
project should have a DETAILED and
CLEAR methodology
