Introduction
There are many methods of Non-destructive
testing and using ultrasonic waves to find cracks
and irregular surface is one of them.
This project aimed in designing a device that can
detect cracks and irregular surface on both
metallic and non-metallic objects.
Objectives

1. Make a device to find cracks using ultrasonic

sound.
2. Make a device to find irregularity on solid
surface of tested object using ultrasonic sound.
Applications and advantages
• To find small crack on metal surface that are hard to
find.
• Error in machining may create some cavities. These
cavities can be detected.
• Attaching with a robotic arm cracks can be found
automatically
Applications and advantages
• Impurities in materials can cause crack which can be
found.
• Cracks can be generated due to cooling. This device
can find these cracks.
• Irregular movement or handling surfaces can face
damage which can also be found by this device.

Conclusion
• Simple and low cost device

• Both cracks and rough areas can easily be found by

using this device

• Effective in field of non-destructive testing

Further study and modification for
research
• Further modification can be done by increasing the frequency.
• Using a Complementary Split-Ring Resonator which
operates in a very high frequency.
• By fixing the device and moving the test object below it
without any contact can remove the errors due to shaky
hands.
• Using image processing and utilizing the data from the graph
image of the cracks including all details can be developed.
