Bogie and wheel shop

 Bogie is a important part of coach .it has to carry the motors brakes and
suspensions system,all within tight envelops.
The differents of parts of bogie are follows :
1. Side frame
2. Bolesten plate
3. Spring plank
4. Wheels
5. Brake beam
6. Link
7. Brake block hanger
8. Brake blocks
9. Central pivot
10. Axle box
11. Primary suspension spring
Spring section
Two types of coil springs are used for suspension:
i. Bolster plate spring
ii. Axle box spring
Inspections and testing of coil spring
 Sand blasting is done for cleaning and stress
relieving
 Visual inspections of spring
 Checking on magnetic crack detection machine by
ultra violet light and defective spring
 Load testing
ROLE OF POH SECTION
 Related with open line working:-
 1) To ensure and co-operate in safer running of rolling
stock.
 2) To attend required schedule maintenance & running
repairs of rolling stocks till the stocks are again due for
P.O.H
 Related with work –shop working:-

coach factory kapurthala.

 LHB Coaches:- LHB body with flat bogie ( Linke

holfmann busch- german) Maximum permissible
speed 160 kmph
Purpose of Bogie:-

 Support of the rail vehical body

 stability on both straight and curved track.
 ensuring ride comfort by absorbing vibration and
minimizing the impact of centrifugal fores when the
train runs on curves at high speed.
Components:-
 WHEELS
 LOAD SPRING

Gauges of Indian Railways:
Indian railways comprise three gauges.

ADVERTISEMENTS:
(i) Broad Gauge: This gauge has 1,676 m distance between the two lines. More than
70 per cent track of Indian railways is broad gauge.

(ii) Metre Gauge: The distance between two rails is one metre. About 24 per centof
Indian railway is metregauge.

(iii) Narrow Gauge: This is of two types. One is 0.762 metre and the other is 0.610
metre broad. It is confined to hilly areas only.
•Wheel:- a train wheel is a type of wheel specially designed for use on
rail tracks.a rail tire usually made from steel ,and typically heated and
pressed onto the wheel.

•Load spring:- load spring is an object that store energy and absorb
shock and typically made of spring steel.

•Frame:- frame is a strucural system that support other components of

physical construction.

•Brake:- a brake is a mechanical device that inhibits motion by

abosoring energy from a moving system. In train generally air brake
use for slowing or stoping .

•Bolster:- a bogie bolster wagon is a british railway term for a ong

goods wagon with a flat bed and no sides or roof.

•Motor:- a traction motor is an electric moter used for propulsion of a
