Date and place of America Serikat and buried in Imogiri, death Bantul, DIY Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX Since he was four years old, he was raised by the Mulder family to get discipline education and simple life even though he was the Crown Prince. HB IX is an example of a democratic nobleman. His western education gives many cultural alternatives. He also changed the old tradition where the king is not an authority controller but a democratic leader. His services to the Republic of Indonesia are worth remembering. When Indonesia first sought a diplomatic solution with the Dutch Government, Hamengkubuwono IX was part of the Indonesian delegation. Hamengkubuwono IX was elected as Vice President alongside Suharto who had also been re-elected to a 2nd term as President. As Vice President, Hamengkubuwono IX was put in charge of welfare and was also given the duty of supervising economic development. Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX was born in Sampilan, Ngasem,Yogyakarta on April 12th, 1912. His given name was Bendoro Raden Mas Djorodjatun. Hamengkubuwono IX is the ninth child of Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono VIII and Raden Ajeng Kustilah. He obtained his education in Yogyakarta, MULO in Semarang, and AMS in Bandung. In 1930 he enrolled at Rijkuniversiteit (now Universiteit Leiden), the Netherlands. Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX crowned as the Sultan of Yogyakarta on March 18th, 1940 with a degree "Sampeyan Dalem Ingkang Sinuhun Kanjeng Sultan Hamengkubuwana Senapati- ing-Ngalaga Abdurrahman Sayidin Panatagama Khalifatullah ingkang Jumeneng Kaping Sanga". Various unfavorable court tradition abolished and the new cultural alternatives. In addition, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX also has a high national understanding . Although he had an western education since the age of four years make sultan found many alternatives for organizing cultural Keraton Yogyakarta later in the day. In his coronation speech as Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX there are two important things that show that attitude. First, is the sentence which reads: "Although I have been educated Westerners actually, but first of all I was and still is the Javanese."Second, is the words that contain the promise of a struggle, "Let me finish my speech with a promise, that I may work for memuhi interests of the homeland, limited knowledge and abilities that I have.” It is difficult to find a leader like Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX. A lot of things had done to this Nation, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX was named a National Hero of Indonesia on June 8th, 2003 by President Megawati Soekarnoputri. Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX is one example of a leader who once owned Yogyakarta and Indonesia. Hope can be an inspiration to us all. Especially for the future of young people.
