“After exploring different aspects of landscape photography, I now had to
develop a single strand of ideas under a chosen title/theme and work
towards creating a final piece under that title. From a list of themes, I
decided to pick 'Urban Maze'. I chose this title because of its connotations
with architectural photography. Architecture is something I have always
been interested in, therefore I am eager to develop ideas of capturing
architecture and exploring how it represents the personality of a city, and
how it contributes to the 'maze' of urbanisation that accumulates in our
cities. I am lucky to live in London, as there is almost limitless opportunity
for architectural photography here, as it is one of the most urbanised cities
in the world. However, I am also interested to develop ideas about
juxtaposing old and new architecture and how the relationship between
modern and aged buildings contribute to and categorize London's 'urban
maze'. Below is a brainstorm of initial ideas I had under my chosen title.”

INSPIRATION:

 1 - Michael Wolf - uses perspective in order to represent the

complexity of city landscapes. Also makes use of interesting texture in
his photography, something I am very interesting in emulating.

2 - Berenice Abbott - uses perspective mainly in her architectural
photography, something that I will mainly focus my whole project on,
as it is architectural photography that I am most interested in, and
using perspective as a formal element helps gain a feeling of the
nature of cities and what influences their personalities. She takes
many shots from ground level looking up, which has influenced me
greatly, but I also have ideas to reverse that idea: take photographs
from high points looking down to get almost the opposite perspective
and then compare them.

3 - Lewis Baltz - makes use of the texture in city landscapes, using
abstract angles and cropping to create textural works of art, also
encompassing the shapes that exist within city landscapes.
IDENTIFYING A MORE PERSONAL PATHWAY

explaining the link to your own work.
