Mayer and Salovey’s five (5) domains can serve as a
guide in developing one’s emotional intelligence.

Domain 1: Knowing one’s emotions and being aware of

oneself
Domain 2: Managing one’s emotions
Domain 3: Motivating oneself
Domain 4: Recognizing emotions in others
Domain 5: Handling relationships
1. What are the five domains of emotional
intelligence? Explain how someone who is
being bullied in school can practice them.

2. Give possible emotions that a bullied person

experiences. If you were the person being
bullied, how would you manage your emotion?
• How do emotions occur? Based on your
explanation, how can emotions be managed?

• Share a personal story where you experienced

strong emotions. What were these emotions? What
were your thoughts while you were experiencing
the emotions? How did you express these emotions
that you experienced? How did you handle these
emotions?
Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize,
assess, and understand one’s emotions and manage
them accordingly resulting in positive physical and
mental health, excellent work performance, and
healthy interpersonal relationships.
There are five domains of emotional intelligence: self-
awareness, self-management, self-motivation, empathy, and
social relationships.

There is a wide variety of emotions a person can experience.

There are many ways to classify them. What is important is
for you to learn the wide array of words that define the
different emotions that people experience.
Howard Gardner’s seven types of intelligences
became known as “multiple intelligence.” These
are verbal-linguistic, mathematical-logical, spatial,
kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, and
intrapersonal. The implications of multiple
intelligences are very important to learning and in
the choice of one’s career path.
To develop one’s emotional intelligence means o be
honest and open to oneself accepting one’s
capacity for different types of emotions, knowing
how to handle emotions positively, and being
emphatic an sensitive to other people’s emotions.
