Introduction
Waste- Product of human and industrial activity, no lasting value.
•Urgency of finding innovative ways of recycling and reusing.
•Requirement of sustainable construction.
•Construction industry massive consumer of natural resources.
•High consumption causes environmental damage and pollution.
•Coarse ,fine aggregate and cement not able to cope with
increasing demand.
•Therefore need of recycling aggregates for sustainable
environment.
Importance of recycled and waste material
•Minimize waste and saving fossil fuel

•Optimized use of available resources

•Enhanced organisational performance

•Reduction of usage of fresh material

•Preserving natural resources

•Reduction of air, water and solid pollution

•Reduce financial expenditure in the economy

Benefits of recycling
•Saves the earth

•Saves the energy

•Helps mitigate global warming and reduce pollution

•Reduce waste product in landfill

•Helps to save money

Challenges in reuse of waste material

•Cost

•Contaminants

•Energy efficiency

•Deconstruction methods
Challenges in reuse of waste material

Types of waste material used in construction work
•Tire rubber

•Reclaimed asphalt pavement

•Glass

•Plastic

•Cement kiln dust

•Silica fume

•Fly ash

•Sewage sludge

Some major projects which used waste material
1. IICC(INDIA INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION
AND EXPO CENTRE),DWARKA, NEW DELHI
•Catalyst in industrial growth of country
•One of the largest facility in India and Asia
•Approximately 11 km from IGI airport an d well connected
to metro and road links
•Planned in site of 89.72Ha
•25% of fly ash in place of cement
•Lot of cement is saved

Some major projects which used waste material
2. Plastic road in Bangalore (BTS 7th main road off of K H
Road, Outside Shanthinagar Bus Stand)
•Plastic roads covering 500 km
•Developed by KK WASTE MANAGEMENT Ltd
•Turned plastic waste into polyblend
•Bangalore produces 10,000 plastic waste in a year
•45,000 km of road which will consume 9000 tonnes of waste
•Currently BBMP is using only 2000 tonnes of plastic

Conclusion

•Waste management for sustainable environment

•Address issues related to environment, society and economy

•Minimized once root cause is identified

•Significant factors are identified

•Innovation of new ways for reducing material waste, time

delay and cost over run in any project.
