TAS

TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES

What's all the fuss?
WHAT IS TAS
• The TAS is a framework that guides the learning requirements and the
teaching, training and assessment arrangements of a VET
qualification. This document outlines the macro-level requirements of
the learning and assessment process.

• Can be a number of documents

• Shows the what how when who why of the course for the RTO.
1.1
• Clause 1.1
• The RTO’s training and assessment strategies and practices, including the
amount of training they provide, are consistent with the requirements of
training packages and VET accredited courses and enable each learner to
meet the requirements for each unit of competency or module in which
they are enrolled.
1.2
• Clause 1.2
• For the purposes of Clause 1.1, the RTO determines the amount of training
they provide to each learner with regard to:
• the existing skills, knowledge and the experience of the learner
• the mode of delivery; and
• where a full qualification is not being delivered, the number of units and/or
modules being delivered as a proportion of the full qualification.
1.3
• Clause 1.3
• The RTO has, for all of its scope of registration, and consistent with its training
and assessment strategies, sufficient:
• trainers and assessors to deliver the training and assessment;
• educational and support services to meet the needs of the learner cohort/s
undertaking the training and assessment;
• learning resources to enable learners to meet the requirements for each unit
of competency, and which are accessible to the learner regardless of
location or mode of delivery; and
• facilities, whether physical or virtual, and equipment to accommodate and
support the number of learners undertaking the training and assessment.
1.4
• Clause 1.4
• The RTO meets all requirements specified in the relevant training package or
VET accredited course.
WHAT IT MUST HAVE
• Need to reflect, what and how we do it
• Need to reflect all current requirements – living document decision making
• Must have full title, codes, units, TP requirements
• Must have also showing HOW your course ensures and meets (ie Core and Electives
noted as such etc).
• Outline the correct course assessment for each unit, method of assessment, and
delivery and also learners physical resources.
• Outline resources for the trainer
• Continuous improvement methods for training and delivery.
AHHH IT HAS MORE!!!
• Must list the review date
• Entry requirements – may include methodology of meeting this.
• Outline RPL and Credit process or refer to.
• Physical Location and resource's sets up for each method and mode of
delivery.
• Must have sign off.
• Outline details of resources, use lists or other
• List and document and given specific details of each location for delivery –
you have to show how every location you delivery at will deliver.
• Human Resources – HR Matrix – can include for each delivering the
qualification or separate document.
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE
• Must outline how you will meet clients and leaner needs to for different
cohorts and learners.
• How you will go about meeting different needs – ie LLN
• Education and Support Services Outline – LNN, Assistive tech, tut’s etc
• Duration and Scheduling – learning needs, outline how you do all this
• Must outline any support or other resources used in delivery.
• Must include, pathways and vocational outcomes
• Licensing bodies or requirements.
• Must clearly state course code, unit codes, RTO number, names, versions,
dates etc. – Be Specific, be Detailed – non compliance occurs when you
don’t!
YOU THOUGHT YOU WHERE
DONE…
• Endorsed and Accessed by trainers – in other words we know where and
how to use it, how we are consulted.
• Delivery Sections
Must include Mapping schedules, assessment activities etc – Resource
Dept major aspect of there role in connection to TAS

• Validation – how what when etc…

• Include evidence of industry consultation- BIG TIME
• Must have name, company, position, contact details – phone email etc.
• The list of preferred units they chose and why
• Must include there direct responses from consultation and questions
AND THE BONUS ROUND GOES TO!
• AQF – Must address this specifically to VOLUME OF LEARNING (1.2)
The volume of learning includes all teaching and learning activities such as
guided learning (classes, lectures, tutorials, online or self-paced study),
individual study, research, learning activities in the workplace and assessment
activities. The amount of training provided by your RTO is part of the overall
volume of learning and relates primarily to formal activities including classes
and other activities as well as workplace learning.

So you must outline and details the timing etc think Pec, but now also how to
delivery etc…. Ie weekly tutors, etc this enchances the speed thus we do it 8
months not 12 as per the Volume etc.
