The Project

Major categories of activities:

 Rehabilitation works on existing sections
– Interventions along the whole motorway of a total
length of 230 km.
 Construction of New Motorway at Tempi – Scotina
section
NEW

– 25 km of motorway including 3 twin tunnels

SECTIONS

 Construction of Toll Stations / OMCs / MSSs

– Necessary for the operation & maintenance
 Motorway Management System & users’
information
– VMS, cameras, traffic loads data, etc.

After the conclusion of the Concession period, Aegean Motorway

S.A. will return the motorway to the State in full working
condition.

A) Rehabilitation works on existing Sections

Rehabilitation works consist of:

 New asphalt layers: 4,000,000 m2 have been laid

 Installation of new guard rails & reflectors

 New road marking to the whole length of the motorway

 Restoration of road lighting

 Cleaning of culverts – cleaning & restoration of drainage system

 Rehabilitation works on existing bridges

 Installation of rock fall protection works in Tempi Valley. Installed:

 1000 no single rock bolts
 3000 m of metal fences
 10.000 m2 of wire mesh
 Scaling: over 2.500 tons of materials scaled and removed
All rehabilitation works have been completed

B) Construction of New Motorway at Tempi – Skotina section

 One of the major parts of the Project is the construction of three twin tunnels.

 These are Tunnels T1, T2 and T3 of 2km, 6km and 2.7km length respectively.

 Each Tunnel will have two (2) driving lanes and one (1) emergency lane, thus having a

width of approx. 10,5 m.

 Max. depth of their construction is up to 300 meters below surface.

 Every approx. 300 meters there will be a cross passage connecting the 2 tubes for

pedestrian use in case of emergency, while every 900 meters the cross passages can be

used also by emergency vehicles.

 Traffic will be supported by:

– Lighting system
– Ventilation system
– Emergency communication system
– SCADA system
– Fire detection & fighting system

Additionally to the tunnels, the construction includes:

 14 km of new motorway
 17 km of secondary roads
 22 new bridges of 200m max. length
 2 new intersections, one in Rapsani and one in Platamonas
 80 new culverts
 6 tunnel control buildings and 3 ventilation buildings in tunnel T2
