• The purpose of the Health and Safety policies and
procedures is to guide and direct all employees to
work safely and prevent injury, to themselves and
others.

• All employees are encouraged to participate in


developing, implementing, and enforcing Health and
Safety policies and procedures.

The employer's responsibilities
under the program
• Prevent workplace injuries and illnesses
• Improve compliance with laws and regulations
• Reduce costs, including significant reductions in workers'
compensation premiums
• Engage workers
• Enhance their social responsibility goals
• Increase productivity and enhance overall business
operations
Workers' rights under the Work
Safety and Health Act

• Worker can be represented by:


• a Health and Safety Representative elected by the workers
• a Health and Safety Committee representing workers
• by other arrangements agreed (for example, Union
Representative).

• Workers also have a responsibility to consult with their


employers. These responsibilities include:
• Participate in and appropriately contributing to consultations
initiated by the employer.
• Take into consideration suggestions made by the employer on
health and safety issues.
• Notify the employer of any a risk to health or safety in the
workplace.
