INTRODUCTION TEST CONDUCTED:

•Through ages, Man have became more innovative in discovering

new materials like composites by using cost & weight reduction
techniques for better performance in the field.
Mechanical properties:
•Innovation is taking the lead in introducing composite materials. Tensile strength & Tensile modulus
•Polymer composites attract the attention in the view of low Compression strength & Compression modulus
density, high load bearing capacity and superior mechanical and Flexural strength & Flexural modulus

tribological characterstics .
•Extensive work in this even reported. Shore D hardness
•Composites are having the advantages of having overall Tribological test:
properties much superior compared to those of the individual Slide wear and Friction
components.
•Composites find extensive applications in automotive, space,
aviation, energy, railway sectors. Results
•Different matrices ,reinforcment and fillers have been reported,
but the use of betel nut powder as filler in a polymer matrix is less
reported.

OBJECTIVES
•Synthesis and evaluation of polymer matrix ( PC & ABS Matrix)
with Kevlar short fibers (0.5mm length) and Naturally available
Betal nut powder (particle size 180 microns) and MoS2 as filler
materials.
•Establishment of correlation of mechanical and tribological
properties of betel nut powder based composites.
•Data analysis, Interpretation and Publication .

METHODOLOGY
Materials:
Polymer matrix
Commercial grade Polycarbonate ( density 1.2g/cm3).
Acrylonitrile Butadienestyrene[ABS] ( density 1.07g/cm3).

Reinforcement & filler

Kevlar short fibers (0.5mm length) as reinforcement.
Betal nut powder (180 microns) and MoS2 (1%) as filler
materials.

COMPOSITE PREPRATION
•The kevlar fibers are chopped to the length of 0.5-0.6mm.
•Then the betel nut powder and kevlar strands are coated with
10% of Silane in the Ethanol solution and they are dried for
obtain better bond strength.
• The materials are blended at 160 degree celsius in a
“BRABENDER” blending machine.
•The composites are prepared using compression moulding
technique with the help of a die at a pressure of 60 bar and temp
210 degree celsius to get a plate of size 150 x 150 x 3 mm
thickness.
