– Ps. 51:16&17
• For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I
would give it; You do not delight in burnt
offering. The sacrifices of God are a
broken spirit, A broken and a contrite
heart- These, O God, You will not despise.

 Review of previous msgs.
• To remember God means celebrating,
commemorating, praising and pleasing God
for who He is to us. It means to be lovingly
conscious of God in our daily living.
• Moses charged Hebrews first, because of his
experience of their fathers. Secondly most
of them were born in the wilderness and
they may be quickly swept off their feet
when they experience the wealth that
awaits them in Canaan, the promised land.

• Love begets love the tale of Lola and Emeka
in Nnewi.
• God loves us first and require us to love in
return.
• Today, we are being asked what is your
concept of love for God?
 The Spirit vs. The Letter
 The Spirit vs The Letter (2 Cor. 3:5-6, Deut.
16:16-17, Ps. 51:16-17, John 4:23-24)
 John 4:23-24 Our Lord Jesus Christ taught us
that true worship comes from our spirit. That
is the spirit behind our action.
 Deut. 16:16-17 says that the children of God
should not come to Him empty handed in
worship.
 Lev. 4:22 – 24 prescribe the sin sacrifice for
rulers.
 The Spirit vs. The Letter 2
 But having done all these, David could not
overcome his guilty conscience. Why?
 Because he genuinely love God beyond the
letters.
 The world is in chaos today because people strive
to keep the law without love.
 The world system makes law not out of love and
the people obey the law not out of love.
 Unfortunately the devil influence man to relate to
God in the same manner.
Sorrow for sin leads to the joy of Salvation
• 2 Corinthians 7:10 NKJV “For godly sorrow
produces repentance leading to salvation, not
to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world
produces death.”
• Satan is ever devising ways to destroy lives
and many people today believe in purgatory in
their heart even when they belong to Christian
denomination that does not adopt it as a
doctrine.
• People often think that once they give to God
they are in good terms with God. FALSE!
 Joy of Salvation
• Ps. 51:15 says “O Lord, open my lips, And my
mouth shall show forth Your praise.”
• Psychologists teach us today that if we adjust our
action then our emotion will change.
• But in reality, it is not so. Many sing praise and
praises but they heart remain heavy.
• Because if David is to worship rightly, God must
work within him, by grace. Grace forgives us and
grace evokes our response. Our “praise” not only
reflects God’s work; it is God’s work. Cf. the
confession of the wicked vs. worship for
deliverance.
 Altar Call
• Until you genuinely give your life to Christ Jesus,
until you believe in Him that He had come to
suffer for you and you become genuinely
sorrowful for sin, you may not know true joy.
• Giving to God as if you are doing God a favour
cannot get you the heart of God.
