General Procedure (SAP)

• Phase-I: Pre-Processing
– Modelling of member (Structure)

• Phase-II: Analysis
– Run Analysis

• Phase-III: Post-Processing
– To see different results (S.F, B.M, Reaction,
deformation)

3
Cont..
• Phase-I: Pre-Processing (Modelling process)
• Opening the Program ( Refer: L03)

• Opening the Program (Change unit according to the requirement)

• Setting up the model Geometry

6
Cont..
• Phase-I: Pre-Processing (Defining process)
– Defining Material Properties (Refer: L03)

– Define > Materials > Concrete > Modify/Show Material

– Defining Member Sections (Refer: L03)

– Define > Frame Sections > Add Rectangular Section > Click
Add New Property

– Note: Here there is beam and column system so define frame

section separately for beam and column. (Next Slide)

– Two section Namely Beam and column

7
Cont..

8
Cont..
• Phase-I: Pre-Processing (Defining process)
– Load Pattern
• Define > load pattern > Dialog box appeared

– Load Cases:
Refer:
• Define > load cases > dialog box displayed
L03
– Load Combination:
• Define > load combination > dialog box appeared

9
Cont..
• Phase-I: Pre-Processing (Drawing process)
– Draw the concern frame element

• Draw > draw frame /cable /tendon> dialog box displayed

shown> select section> (Column and beam) and draw
each on their specific location

10
Cont..
• Phase-I: Pre-Processing (Assigning process)
– Assigning Member Sections (Refer: L03)

– Select the member > Assign > Frame/Cable/Tendon > Frame

Section

– Select the appropriate section from the list > OK

– Repeat for other elements

• Select beam portion and assign beam section to it

• Select column portion and assign column section to it

11
Cont..
• Phase-I: Pre-Processing (Assigning process)
– Assign Joint Restraints(support conditions)

– Select Joint. Assign > Joint > Restraints

– Fast Restraints > hinge > OK

12
Cont..
• Phase-I: Pre-Processing (Assigning process)
– Assign Load (Gravity), UDL and UVL (Refer: L03)

– Select Joint/Member section where to apply load

– Assign > frame load > dialog box appeared (Gravity, load
distributed temperature etc)

13
Cont..
• Phase-I: Pre-Processing (Assigning process)

14
Cont..
• Phase-I: Pre-Processing (Assigning process)
– Uniformly varying or other form of loading
– Similar process discuss early just to play with distance & load.

15
Cont..
• Phase-I: Pre-Processing (Assigning process)
– Uniformly varying in different directions

16
Cont..
• Phase-I: Pre-Processing (Assigning process)
– Different loading application

17
Cont..
• Phase-I: Pre-Processing (Assigning process)
– Different loading application

18
Cont..
• Phase-I: Pre-Processing (Assigning process)
– Assign moment: Similarly to load just change option to moment
shown below

19
Cont..
• Phase-II: Analysis (Run Analysis) (Refer: L03)

20
Cont..
• Phase-III: Post-Processing

• Check Internal Forces and Diagrams Shear

– Display > Show Forces/Stresses > Frames/Cables

– Case/Combo Name: DEAD > Shear 2-2 > Auto Scaling >
Show Values on Diagram > OK

• Display > Show Deformed Shape> Choose Load Case > Auto
Scaling > Wire Shadow > Cubic Curve

21
Cont..
• Phase-III: Post-Processing

22
Cont..
• Phase-III: Post-Processing
– Check Reactions

– Display > Show Forces/Stresses > Joints

– Case/Combo Name: DEAD> Type: Reactions > Show as Arrows >

OK

23
Cont..
• Phase-III: Post-Processing
– Generating output report (Tables)

– Display > shows table > dialog box

END

24
Cont..
• Phase-III: Post-Processing
– Generating output report (Tables)

How to Edit Gird System
– After Editing gird system goes through Modelling phase-I
completely discussed already (Previous Lectures)

– During drawing step. Draw each section gird line separately

– Apply loading to each section accordingly (selecting separate

section and assign load given)

31
How to assign load at different location
– Two Ways

• By Editing the Gird System (Done)

• Play with load assignment with variable distance

32
How to assign load at different location

– Assign each load separately by just clicking the add to
