 What is 5S Principle?
‘5S Principle’ is a simple tool for
organizing workplace in a clean,
efficient and safe manner
to enhance productivity, visual
management and standardized
working.

It was first developed in Japan in the

eighties
 5S PRINCIPLE IN BRIEF

• Seiri (Sorting): Separate needed items from

unneeded items. Dispose unneeded items.
• Seiton (Set in Order): A place for everything and
everything in its place.
• Seiso (Shine): Cleaning & sweeping everything
around working area regularly.
• Seiketsu (Standardize): Maintain the first three
steps by standardization.
• Shitsuke (Self Discipline): Everyone understands,
obeys, and practices the rules.
