3
Introduction

Power system reliability is defined as the ability of the system to satisfy the customer
demand.

Reliability

Adequacy Security

4
Adequacy
Adequacy is the ability of the electric system to supply energy
requirements of the customer at all time.

Security
Security is the ability of the electric system to withstand sudden
disturbances such as electric short circuits or unanticipated loss of system
facilities.

5
Distribution System

The distribution system is the part of electric system after the

transmission system that is dedicated to delivering electric energy to an
end user.

• Radial distribution system

• Loop or Network system

6
Components of Radial Distribution System

 Lines

 Cables

 Disconnects

 Bus bars

Pb.10
If the probability of being able to transfer load is 0.8, evaluate the
basic indices for each load pf & reliability indices.
The main feeder have a failure rate of 0.1 f/km yr and the lateral
distributors have a failure rate of 0.2 f/km yr.

Conclusion

The basic techniques are needed to evaluate the reliability of

distribution systems. The reliability indices that are evaluated are
affected greatly by the characteristics and policy.
