FREEDOM

AND LOVE OF
COUNTRY

Prepared by: Rosana F. Rodriguez, RN.

Definition of Freedom
• The state of being
free or at liberty
rather than in
confinement or
physical restraint.
Definition of Love of
Country
o Serving your country
and waving the flag
o Also called Nationalism
/ Patriotism
The Meaning of Nationalism

• Nationalism is simply love of

country with all its inhabitants.
• A state of awareness that a
nation does exist and is made
of people who owe allegiance
not only to a tribe, clan, or
region nor to any religious or
political entity.
The Meaning of Nationalism

• Nationalism is based on
the premise that the
individual’s loyalty and
devotion to the nation-
state surpass other
individual or group
interests.
Patriotism

• “but if you return to me and

obey my commands, then even
if your exiled people are the
farthest horizon, I will gather
them from there and bring
them to the place I have chosen
as a dwelling for my name”
Patriotism
• Patriotism runs in the blood
of the Filipinos. In every age
of foreign invasion or evil
rule, patriots would always
rise and inspire and lead the
people to freedom.
Patriotism
• They did not fear for their lives,
choosing to endure suffering
and pain than deny the country
they loved.
• Some opted to stay in prison
and keep their dignity than walk
away with freedom but with
honor stripped.
Patriotism
• Their names went down to
history, engraved in portals ,and
their images stood as
monuments.
• They died but their memories
have lingered and their stories
have continued to inspire the
nation.

• Mas mamatamisin ko pang mamatay na
nakatayo na taglay ko ang karangalan kaysa
mabuhay na nakaluhod sa kahihiyan. Sapagkay
mas mabuti pang mamatay sa kalayaan kaysa
mabuhay akong nakatiklop- tuhod. Akoy
naniniwala na ang mabuhay nang kahit isang
araw lamang sa pagtatanggol ng kalayaan ay
higit na makabuluhan kaysa mabuahay ng may
sandaang taon sakbibi ng pagkatakot o di kaya’y
paglilingkod ng kalupitan
How are we going to show our
love for our country
• “The Philippines does not need love. It needs respect.
And it does not need this respect to come from the
outside, it needs it to come from within — from Filipinos
themselves. Whereas Filipinos raise stink after stink
about perceived insults from foreigners, we fail to see the
gross disrespect Filipinos themselves reserve for their
own country. Filipinos treat their land like a vast garbage
dump, routinely fail to be considerate of their neighbors,
produce the shoddy and mediocre products that have
turned “Made in the Philippines” into an indictment, and
consistently elect idiots and crooks to run their
government. Has there been a foreign entity that has
shown more disrespect to the Philippines than Filipinos
themselves?
How are we going to show our
love for our country
• ““The Philippines will prosper only when
Filipinos gain a bit of self-respect — when
we respect our own laws, when we respect
the people who purchase our products,
when we respect the people whose lives are
affected by the leaders we elect, when we
respect our environment and appreciate
how easily it could make or break us, and
when we respect our own individual
abilities to determine our own respective
futures.
How are we going to show our
love for our country
• Recently another threat to the sovereignty
of the Philippines has emerged with China
defying International maritime laws by
claiming all of the South China Sea
including Scarborough Shoals, which are
obviously within the jurisdiction of our
country. Enraged Filipinos launched
massive protests before Chinese embassies
in various parts of the world, while our
government has filed multiple diplomatic
protest against the usurper.
How are we going to show our
love for our country
• At this tumultuous moment in history, the
call for true patriot s is being sounded all
across the land. The need to rise up and
defend the country is being raised to an
alarming level.
• Filipinos both men and women, are now
being challenged to respond to the demand
of the times. We must all do our part.
Defending our country is God’s will, for this
the only way we got, the only one there wiil
ever be.
Declaration
“ I am a patriotic person and I shall defend
my country the Philippines to the best and
any way that I could. I shall not withhold
myself from enlisting in Military if
required in order to add strength to the
nation’s might. Moreover , I vow to win the
war by being an active soldier of God.
Having said so. I shall determine the
manner of engaging in spiritual warfare
and pay the p rice to become seasoned
defender of truth and righteousness.
Prayer
“ Heavenly Father, I was born in a relatively
peaceful era and honestly I admit that I
am not ready to engage in physical wars. I
love my country but I will feel certainly
devastated to leave my loved ones and go to
the battlefield. Nonetheless . Give us the
Grace to respond appropriately to your
words and instructions, to rise up and
defend this country if need be. But above
all, let me finish the battle in the spirit in
order to put an end to military threats
posed against this nation.
Patriotism
• It runs in the blood of the Filipinos.
In every age of foreign invasion or
evil rule, patriots would always rise
and inspire and lead
