While (sedangkan)
While is used to show direct contrast between two
facts that are opposite between each other. While is
placed between the two clauses.

Pattern:
clause 1 + while + clause 2

It can be used either on negative or positive meaning.

Examples
- Alex can play guitar very good while Kenny
isn’t.

- In December, the northern hemisphere is in

winter season while the southern hemisphere
is in summer season.

- In Quebec, most of their people speaks French

as their main language while most people in the
rest of Canada mainly speaks English.
Whereas (sedangkan)
 whereas di gunakan untuk menggabungkan
dua kalimat yang berlawanan fakta baik
dalam kalimat possitive ataupun negative
 Whereas : to indicate a contrast between two
facts or ideas.
 Rumus :
- S1 + v1 + C + whereas + S2 + V1 + C
- whereas + S1 + V1 + C + S2 + V1 + C
Contoh
 I'm listening music, whereas my mother call me to
do something work.
 She is studying English, whereas her brother buzy
playing games.
 You can't just enjoy watching tv, whereas your
mother is so buzy with her work in the kitchen.
 People say cheers in Britain it means thank you,
whereas in America they call cheers for toast.
 Whereas Indonesia has very hot summers,
Singapore summers are usually quite mild.
 Dresden was in East Germany, whereas
Nuremberg was in West Germany.

 InSpite of digunakan untuk menunjukan kontras dua
kalimat yang memiliki Keterangan ( Yang dilakukan /
Fact ) dan kejadian yang bertentangan atau
berbeda

 Pattern:
 In Spite of + Noun/Prase(Verb-Ing)/Pronoun, Clause
 Clause + In spite of + Noun/Phrase(Verb-ing) /Prounoun
 Penggunaan In Spite of dalam
menyatakan Fact
 Kejadian:
 He is so caring to all his family
 (keternagan) Fact :
 The fact he is so vicious
 Pada Kalimat :
 In Spite of the fact that he is so vicious, he is so caring to
all his family (Meskipun faktanya dia begitu galak, dia
sangat peduli terhadap keluarganya.)
Contoh
 In spite of rain, we have to go to school.
 George keeps on studying all night long in
spite of getting tired.
 In spite of too far, I will visit her house.
 They decided to get married in spite of
the huge differences in their ages
Despite(Walaupun/meskipun)

 Despite digunakan untuk menunjukan kontras

dua kalimat yang memiliki Keterangan ( Yang
dilakukan / Fact ) dan kejadian yang
bertentangan atau berbeda.

 Pattern:
 Despite + Noun/Verb-ing/Pronoun, Clause
 Clause + Despite + Noun/Verb-ing/Prounoun
 Penggunaan Despite dalam
menyatakan Fact
 Kejadian:
I didn’t get the job
 (keterangan) Fact :
I had all the necessary qualifications
 Pada Kalimat :
I didn’t get the job despite the fact that I had all the
necessary qualifications
 Although
Although merupakan kata penghubung yang
menyatakan pertentangan antara klausa utama
dan anak kalimat.
Digunakan untuk menyambung 2 kalimat yang
subjeknya sama.
Pattern:
 Although+S+V, S+V+C
 Although+S+to be, S+V+C
 S+V+C+Although+S+to be
 S+V+C+Although+S+V
Contoh:
 Although it rained a lot, the students enjoyed their
holiday
 Although they are rich, they don’t spend much
money
 Richard worked on his project all night although he
was tired
 Andrew passed the exam although he didn’t study
at all
 Amber wants to go out although she is sick
EVEN THOUGH (Meskipun)

Digunakan untuk mengekspresikan suatu hal yang tidak

terduga yang memiliki arti berbeda satu sama lainnya dengan
memberikan penekanan.

Pattern:

1. Even though + Dependent Clause, Independent Clause

2. Independent Clause+ Even Though + Dependent Clause

percakapan formal. Though mempunyai
makna lain yaitu namun demikian / tetapi,
sehingga penggunaan kata though yang
memiliki makna ini berbeda dengan although
dan eventhough
