Symmetric System of Cryptography

To use the
Symmetric
System, first
create a word
file.

The PGP software is depicted


by an orange coloured lock
on the right hand bottom of
the screen
Now, right click on the “PGP Icon”,
guide your cursor to “Current
Window”, then click on the option
“Encrypt”
In the software PGP
“Symmetric
Encryption” is also
referred to as
“Conventional
Encryption”.

Now,
select
“Conventional
Encryption” and
click on the option
“OK”
Enter the “Pass
phrase”, then
type the same
“pass phrase”
again in the
column below to
confirm. Then
click on the option NOTE
“OK”
The minimum length
prescribed for the
“pass phrase” is one
character. No maximum
length has been prescribed
The contents of
the file in
encrypted form
To “Decrypt” the encrypted
document, guide your cursor to
the “PGP Icon”, select “Current
Window”, then click on the
option “Decrypt and Verify”
Now, enter the same
“passphrase” you
had entered at the
time of “Encryption”.
Then click on the
option “OK”
The Encrypted
text has been
decrypted
Self Decrypting Archive
Create a
document
and save it
to a
desired
location

The option of a “Self decrypting Archive” is used


when the sender of the message has the software “PGP”
but the receiver does not.
To create the “Self Decrypting
Archive” right click on the
document, guide the cursor to
the option “PGP”, then click on
the option “Create SDA”
Enter the “Pass
phrase”, then
type the same
“pass phrase” NOTE
again in the
column below to The minimum length
confirm. Then prescribed for the
click on the “pass phrase” is one
option “OK” character. No maximum
length has been prescribed
Assign a “name”
to the “SDA” and
save it to a
desired location
by selecting the
option “Save”
In the present example the SDA file has been
saved on the desktop.

To decrypt the contents of this file “double click”


with the mouse on the icon.
Enter the same
“pass phrase”
you had assigned
at the time of
creation of the
“SDA”
Assign a “name” to
the “decrypted file”
and save it to a
desired location by
selecting the option
“Save”
Asymmetric Encryption
Key Pair Generation
To generate new key pair right click on the
“PGP Icon” and select the option
“PGP Keys”
To generate a new key
pair guide your cursor to
the key on the left hand
corner of the screen and
click on it.
The “PGP Key
generation
Wizard” will open
up.

Read the
instructions
carefully, then
click on the
option “Expert”
Fill in all the required
details like “Full
Name”, “Email
Address”, the “Key
Type” (Please choose
the RSA Key type),
“Key Size” and “Key
Expiration”.

After filling in the


details click on the
option “Next”
Please read the
instructions
carefully.

Enter your
“8 character”
passphrase and
re-enter it in the
space provided
below.

Now click on the


option “Next” to
proceed
Generation of the
new “Key Pair” can
take a few minutes.

After the “Current


status” option
shows “Done”, click
on the option “Next”
Please read the
instructions
carefully

Now click on the


option “Finish” to
continue
The new “Key
Pair” has been
generated.
Encryption using Asymmetric
System
To use the
Asymmetric
System, first
create a word
file.
Now, right click on the “PGP Icon”,
guide your cursor to “Current
Window”, then click on the option
“Encrypt”
To Encrypt drag
receivers Public
key into the
recipients column

Now click on the


option “OK” to
continue
The document “Encrypted” document
Decryption in the Asymmetric
System
To “Decrypt & Verify” the
encrypted document, guide your
cursor to the “PGP Icon”, select
“Current Window”, then click on
the option “Decrypt and Verify”
To decrypt the document
enter the passphrase to the
“Private Key”, now click on
the option “OK”
The document has been
“decrypted”
Encrypt and Sign using Asymmetric
cryptography
Now, right click on the “PGP Icon”,
To Encrypt
guide your cursor to “Current
and Sign, first
Window”, then click on the option
create a word
“Encrypt & Sign”
file.
To Encrypt drag
eceivers Public
key into the
ecipients column

Now click on the


option “OK” to
continue
To Sign, enter the
passphrase to the
“Private Key” of the
signor.

Now click on the


option “OK”
The above document has been
“Encrypted” & “Signed”
Decrypt and verify using
Asymmetric cryptography
To “Decrypt & Verify” the encrypted &
signed document, guide your cursor to
the “PGP Icon”, select “Current
Window”, then click on the option
“Decrypt and Verify”
To decrypt the document
enter the passphrase to the
“Private Key”, now click on
the option “OK”
The signature has been
verified and the
document has been
decrypted
