COMMUNICATION PROCESS
MEANING OF COMMUNICATION
• Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place to
another.
• Communication skills form the corner stone of soft skill.
• Visualizations: Graphs and charts, maps, logos and other visualizations can
communicate messages and is also a part of communication skill.

• Every human being has to essentially & effectively communicate with others.
• Effective communication is the hallmark of one’s education.

• The ability to speak fluently using the right word in the right order is a good communication.
The words that we choose can make a big difference to whether other
components of verbal communication are sound, words, speaking, and language. Verbal
communication is generally thought as spoken language. We express ourselves through
words.
1. Face to Face Discussions, Speeches, Television, Radio, Telephone conversations, Seminars, Videos etc.
Our tone of voice, pronunciation, word choice are all things we choose in order to talk. These things
make a conversation have it`s personality. When we are angry we talk in a certain way, when we are
happy we choose other words to express ourselves.
2. Verbal communication also includes the written word. Written includes emails, books, letters,
magazines, newspapers, notes, faxes, written announcements, pamphlets etc. Anything that is written is
also verbal communication. Oral communication has also besides real words, mere grunts, cries,
whimpers that people make. Each sound we make can be interpreted and seen as a certain language.
Communicating with others is done more easy and it`s also more easy to understand if the two people

• REPEAT - Repeating the message back in your own words will help your perspective
and evaluation of the message.
• USE NONVERBALS - The use of nonverbal with verbal communication helps to
deliver the message more effectively. Nonverbals that are commonly used to increase
verbal communications effectiveness are visual aids, body language and charts. For
example, if you’re verbally telling someone how to change the oil in their car, you
should demonstrate the action in order to provide accuracy to the recipient.

MEANING & TYPES OF NON-VERBAL
COMMUNICATION SKILL
• Nonverbal communication includes all unwritten and unspoken messages, both intentional and
unintentional.
1. Chronemics: The use of time in communication is chronemics, which speaks about the personality of the sender / receiver
like punctuality, the speed of speech, etc.
2. Vocalics: The volume, tone of voice and pitch used by the sender for communicating a message to the receiver is known as
vocalics or paralanguage.
3.Haptics: The use of touch in communication is the expression of feelings and emotions.
4. Kinesics: It is the study of the body language of a person, i.e., gestures, facial expressions, etc.
5.Proxemics: The distance maintained by a person while communicating with others, communicates about the relationship of
the person with others like intimate, personal, social and public.
6. Artifacts: The appearance of a person speaks about his personality, i.e. by way of clothing, carrying jewellery, lifestyle,
etc. This kind of communication is known as artifactual communication.
