Jesus and his parents returned to Jerusalem each year for a

feast.

Mary, Jesus and Joseph

When Mary and Joseph left for Nazareth, they left Jesus
behind by accident.
Mary and Joseph go looking for their son.
Mary and Joseph found Jesus praying in the temple
(church) in Jerusalem.
Mary and Joseph were so relieved that they found Jesus.
But he was surprised that that they were looking for him.
He went with them to Nazareth and grew up with his
parents.
This story is set in Jerusalem when Jesus is twelve years
old.

The main characters in this story are Mary, Joseph and

Jesus.

In this story Jesus is left behind, by his parents in Jerusalem.

He was lost and he made his way to the temple. There he
participated in the teachings of the church. When his parents
found him in the temple, they were shocked at his
understanding.
This story is told by Luke in a way that glorifies Jesus
even in his youth and shows us that he was truly divine
even as a child.
Important words from this story are;
- My father’s house
- Temple
- Passover (feast)
It shows that Jesus knew who his ‘Father’ was, and thus,
he spent a lot of his time with scholars around churches.

This part of the Gospel is important to the Christians because

it shows that Jesus is aware of his role at a young age and is
already taking steps to learn more about God. This
encourages today’s young Christians to do the same and
influences families to spend time talking about God with
each other.
