• People from more than 140 countries around the


world buy its bikes, cars, boat motors, mini-
tractors, autonomous power stations, tillers for
farmers and other mechanisms equipped with
gasoline engines.
Biography

• 17 November 1906
• Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan
Family Background

• His mother, Mika, was a weaver


• And his father, Gihei, was a blacksmith, who ran
a bicycle repair business.
• His father was buying broken bikes for a
knockdown price in Tokyo, repairing and selling
them to all comers. Soichiro was helping his
father
Soichiro’s Life

• In 1922, after finishing eight years of schooling,


Soichiro noticed a job.
• He joined Art Shokai Auto Repair Shop as an
Helper in Tokyo.
• After that he was permanently selected as an
assistant in that workshop on 5 years contract.
• In 3 years of signing contract he observed that
he will never Learn what he wants.
• He joined a new company which repaired the
new car models with latest technology.
• He was a part of new company for three years.
Beginning Of Struggle

• After 6 years he come back to village.


• He opened a garage in his village where he
repaired the cars of villagers.
• After 4 years he opened a mini factory which can
produce spare parts of the cars.
Initial Try

• He made some spare parts.


• The companies rejected to buy his mechanical
spare parts. With saying that “we don’t need
your mechanical spare parts.”
Piston Invention

• “find problem then its solution”


• Said the director of a company.
Don’t Give Up

• Nonsense, utter nonsense about the parts we'll


discuss later, first I would like to say that the way
you talk, walk a very bad tone all, the whole
speech. It seems like that you are illiterate.
• These words were from Director of TOYOTA
corporation, when he presented his invented first
piston ring for TOYOTA.
Tokai Seiki

• In 1937, Honda opened his own business in


Hamamatsu., Honda founded the company
‘Tokai Seiki’ and started producing the piston
rings, production technology of which had been
finally found.
• Now he was 40% piston provider for TOYOTA
Corporation.
World War II
Challenges

• In 1945 (During World War II) his factory was


‘Tokai Seiki’ was targeted by American B-29.
• His factory’s central plant was destroyed.
• His reaction:
• No problem, Not much damage has been done,
said smiling
• In January 1945 his factory was again damaged
by an earthquake.
• After that he sold out his factory to TOYOTA
Corporation in 4,50000 yen.
Starting a new Era

• He invented first Moped at his home.


• He received many orders to make these moped.
HRI

• In 1946 Honda opened his own ‘factory’ with a


grandiloquent name – ‘Honda Technical
Research Institute’
15000 Letters

• After building of ‘Honda Technical Research


Institute’ he did not have any more funds.
• He wrote 15000 letters to all Bicycle factory
owners and Bicycle distributors to invest in his
business
• First production consist of 200 mopeds.
• Unfortunately, this production was rejected by
Japanese public, because they were heavy and
made loud noise and also were ugly.
Honda A -Type

The next model of moped proved itself


best. Because it was light, beautiful and
made low noise.
Pioneer Of Modern MotorBikes

• In 1949, the first model of a motorcycle with a


two-stroke engine Soichiro called ‘The Dream’.
Two years later he started the production of a
model with four-stroke engine.
Economical Revenge
Legend Lives Forever

• The legendary businessman died on August 5,


1991. By the end of his life he came up with a
large store of achievements, which were 470
inventions and 150 patents, honorary doctorate
at Michigan Technical University and Ohio State
University, the highest honor of his country –
Japan’s Blue Ribbon – and many other more
achievements. Starting a business having $
3,200 thousand dollars, he created the largest
company with annual revenue of more than $ 30
billion dollars
