INFLUENCE OF YOGIC PRACTICES AMONG

MIDDLE AGE DIABETIC PATIENTS

INTRODUCTION

 Diabetes is an endocrine disease.



 It is a metabolic disorder.
 Diabetes is due to either the pancreas not producing
enough insulin,or the cells of the body not responding
properly to the insulin produced
 6.7 crore indians are affected
 Normal fasting blood glucose range is 70-100mg/dl
 Post parandial blood glucose range is upto 140 mg/dl
 There are three types : Type1,Type2(common) and
gestational diabetes
 Yoga makes up feel good all- around, improving our
sense of well-being and making us feel lighter.

Types of Diabetes Mellitus
Type 1 diabetes mellitus results from the

pancreas, fails to produce the enough insulin due
to loss of beta cell (Islets of Langerhans).
It is referred to as insulin dependent diabetes
mellitus or juvenile diabetes. the causes is
unknown
Type 2 begins with insulin resistance, a
condition in which cells fail to respond to insulin
properly this is referred to as “ non insulin-
dependent diabetes mellitus.
Gestational Diabetes Mellitus is the third main
form and occurs during pregnancy.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

 Yoga is an ancient Indian psychological


and physical exercise regimen and a

number of controlled studies exist on the
effectiveness of Yoga on diabetes
mellitus.
 Regular practice of Yoga establishes
natural harmony and functional balance
between various organ systems, leading
to better health and feeling of well-being.
 To bring out awareness on diabetes
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The Purpose of the


study is to bring
out awareness on the effect of yogic
practices among aged Type 2 diabetic
patients.
CAUSES

 Obesity

 Sedentary living
 Eating high caloric food
 Stress
 Genetic factors
 Urbanization
 Smoking, alcohol
SYMPTOMS

 Increased urine output



 The dehydration also causes increased
thirst and water consumption.
 A relative or absolute insulin
deficiency eventually leads to weight
loss.
 The weight loss of diabetes patients
also complain of fatigue.
 Nausea and vomiting can also occur in
patient with untreated diabetes

CRITICISM
 Middle age is the age of diseases and thus
threatening illness.

 Though visual acuity, strength and endurance
decline from the peak of early adulthood, healthy
aging is not impossible.
 Elderly People require special attention and
guidance not all asanas can be performed. Elderly
people get exhausted quickly. Certain yogic
practices have to be modified according to their
fitness level in all aspects.
BENEFITS OF YOGIC PRACTICES FOR DIABETES

 
Activates internal organs.
 Activates blood flow to the wounds.
 Avoid injuries by activating nerves.
 Responsiveness to immune cells.
 Activates cells to absorb sugar.
 To speed up healing by activating
tissues.
 Avoids infections.
CONCLUSION
 Yoga intervention appears to improve the QOL
and sleep quality of elderly Type 2 diabetes.

 Yoga intervention reduces stress, anxiety and
depression by improving their performance at
work.
 Yoga intervention helps the elderly people to
stay away from diseases.
 Yoga intervention also helps elderly people to
do their work independently without the risk
of falling.
 Yoga is thus needed for the total wellbeing of
middie age.
