PRESENT TENSE

The simple present tense indicates an


action in the present time which is not finished.
This can be a habitual action (something done
regularly such as brushing your teeth every day)
or a general truth.

Time signal : every (day, week, month,


etc), in the morning (afternoon / evening), at
night, on Sunday (Monday, Tuesday, etc),
seldom.
The pattern :

 Nominal sentence
Positif sentence : S + To be (is, am, are) + O + T/S
Negative sentence : S + To be (is, am, are) + not + O + T/S
Introgative sentence : To be (is, am, are) + S + O + T/S

 Verbal sentence
Positif sentence : S + V- 1 + O + T/S
Negative sentence : S + Do/Does + not + V- 1 + O + T/S
Introgative sentence : Do/Does + S + V- 1 + O + T/S
Note :

When the subjects is third singular person (e.g)


he, she, it add a final –s/es to the verb.
1. Add –es, if the verbs ends in, ‘sh’ – ‘ch’ – ‘ss’ – ‘x’
– or – ‘zz’.
Ex : - wash washes
- catch catches
- pass passes
- fix fixes
- buzz buzzes
2. If the verb ends in a consonant ‘y’, change the
‘y’ to ‘I’ and add ‘es’.
Ex. : - study studies
- try tries
- cry cries
3. If the verb ends in a novel ‘y’, simple add ‘s’.
Ex. : - pay pays
- buy buys
Example :
1. We play football every month (+)
We do not play football every month (-)
Do we play football every month (?)

2. She is a general manager (+)


She is not a general manager (-)
Is she a general manager (?)
