• Facility layout is an arrangement of everything needed for the production of goods or

delivery of service. A facility is an entity that facilitates the performance of any job. It
may be a machine tool, a work centre, manufacturing cell, a machine shop, a
department, a warehouse, etc.
• Providing enough production capacity.
• Utilize available space efficiently and effectively.
• Reducing material handling cost.
• Utilize labor efficiently.
• Provide ease of supervision.
• Facilitate co-ordination and face-to-face communication for better productivity and
also quick service.
• Ease of future expansion or change.
• Flow of movement.
• Materials handling.
• Space Utilization.
• Ease of communication and support.
• Output needs.
• Shipping and receiving.
• Promotional value.
• Safety.
TYPES OF LAYOUT
• Process layout:
In process layout, similar activities are grouped together according to the process or function they
perform.
• Product layout:
In product layout the workstations are located according to the processing sequence for the service.
• Static layout:
A static layout is appropriate for a product that is too large or too heavy to move.
• Cellular layout:
Cellular manufacturing is a type of layout where machines are grouped according to the process
requirements for a set of similar items (part families) that require similar processing.
• Hybrid layout:
Many situations call for a mixture of the three main layout types. These mixtures are commonly
called combination or hybrid layouts. For example, one firm may utilize a process layout for the
majority of its process along with an assembly in one area.
PRINCIPLE OF LAYOUT

• The principle of minimum travel

• Principle of sequence
• Principle of usage
• Principle of safety and satisfaction
• Principle of minimum investment
• Effective use of area.
• Minimization of delays.
• Minimum equipment investment.
• Avoidance of bottlenecks.
• Improved employee morale.
• Avoidance of unnecessary costly changes.
RELATIONSHI BETWEEN BANK LAYOUT AND CUSTOMER
SATISFACTION
• Layout has numerous strategy implications because it establishes an organization’s
competitive priorities in regard to capacity, processes, flexibility and cost as well as quality
of work life, customer contact and image.

• Facility design consists of non-human elements such as facility layout equipment, lighting,
and colour that affect human emotions and behaviour.

• Such designs should be focused upon maximizing the positive and meaningful impact for
the customers.

• Lightning can totally changed the feeling of a room, making it harsh or soft, formal or
completely informal. Colours and surfaces similarly can change an office dramatically. Hard-
finishes for example can be used for 'fast-moving' areas, whereas soft finishes can be used for
relaxing a visitor, in a waiting area.
ELEMENTS THAT AFFECTS WAITING TIME

• Availability of facilities and

equipment.
• Human Resources.
• Participants.
• Registration and other process.
PROS AND CONS

• Here the entire layout of SBI is properly laid.

• Space is properly utilized.
• The facility is laid in such a way that there is flow of work and communication.
• Here the only drawback is with the parking facility.
• It is a big problem in Tilak road for traffic.
• For this reason only they are trying to change the location.
• So, instead of parking at the front portion of building there is a small space beside
back so there it can provide parking facility to both its employees as well as customers.
