PREDICAMENTS IN
READING COMPREHENSION OF
GRADE IV -VI

Reading is a pre-requisite skill for pupils to

succeed in school, to learn other skills and to
prove their competencies for promotion in
higher grade level. Teachers are encourage to
improve the quality of instruction and for the
exploration of better methods of teaching to
achieve maximum learning in the classroom.
This requires the teacher to become
resourceful and creative to minimize
expenditure considering the limited
financial resources of the department. The
teacher must learn to use proven
techniques to teach pupils to appreciate
and enjoy learning reading and language
in the classroom. This means that teacher
must be committed to effectively teach
search and apply what she has learned.
Reading is a process that cannot be
completed in just a minute. Every learner has to
gradually and carefully undergo the phases of
reading development and readiness is viewed to
be a significant factor.

Each learner has to master the requisite

reading skills each stage or phase necessitates
and can only move to the next if and only if he is
ready or equipped with the required reading
skills to scope with the demands on following
reading development phase.
Based on the status of grade
IV-VI pupils for school year
2018-2019
in R.M. Carloto Memorial
Elementary School, it has been
found out that 21 out of 190
Grade IV-VI pupils need
improvements in Reading
Comprehension.
So the grade advisers together
with the CI members conduct a
solution for the aforementioned
to solve this problem. Thus the
adviser conduct a reading
comprehension test quarterly to
cope up with this problem.
The researcher believes in the
continuous support and nurturance of the
reading skills of the Grade IV_VI pupils.
Findings will be of use not only to the
teachers but to parents, school
administrators and all educational
stakeholders.

` All educational endeavors are

supposed to be learner-centered and
whatever the performances of the pupils in
reading will make need to full support and
reinforce of parents, teachers and education
stakeholders.
