Students perception towards social media with


special reference to Management students.
This study examines the effect of social media,
particularly facebook, on perception of
management students towards using social
networking in generating new business ideas
and enhancing their skills.
Findings revealed that facebook is being used to
obtain market information, sales information
and promotions.
Social media is a popular trend today, especially
among college students.
Business are always looking for new ways to reach
customers, especially reading to enter the work
force.
Social media/networking sites let individuals to
present themselves, and begin or keep
connections with others. This helps to get many
ideas of sales promotion and also the
information/updates of emerging new market
trends.
Recent trends show that social media usage has increased.
As of October 2011, one of the most well-known social
sites is facebook. This site boasts 800 million active
users, and over 50% of active users log on to the site
everyday(facebook 2011). Members are able to connect
with friends on the site, and the average user maintains
approximately 130 friends. Further, more than 350
million of these users access the site through a mobile
device.
According to Eldon (2011), 51.2% of users are male,
whereas 48.8% are female. In terms of age, 20.6% of
users are between the age of 13 and 17, 25.8% are
between the age of 26-34, and 27.5% are over the age of
35.
Below statistics proves that the mostly users are between
the age group of 13-34.
Facebook is the world`s largest american online
social media and social networking service
company based in Menlo Park, California.
Currently, facebook is having more than 2.2
billion active users. It provides a place for
connection via sharing photos, videos and test
updates, Users create personal profiles and
establish relationships with people and companies.
• To check whether management students are able
to enhance their skills with help of social media.
• To Identify the requirements or expectations of
management students from social media .
• To Identify whether the management students
are getting help in making business plans from
social media.
• In this study, a quantitative research survey was
created to analyze the effect of social media on
management students. This survey instructions
are mainly focused on facebook.
• Sample size taken of 30 Management students.
• Adopted Random sampling method.
