INTRODUCTION

The NCF 2005 recommends that the children's life at school


must be linked their life outside the school.

Text books are not the only source of knowledge, but it


should support children to construct knowledge through all
sources around them, such as people, their environment,
newspaper, magazines, other books, TV, radio, internet etc.

There is an attempt to discourage the rote learning and the


maintenance of sharp boundaries between different areas.
There are six major themes in EVS curriculum at
Primary level. They are
1.)Family and Friends
2.)Food
3.)Water
4.)Shelter
5.)Travel
6) Things we make and do

Each theme has subthemes.


Eg:- Family and Friends has four Subthemes. They
are
Relationship,
• Work and Play,
 Plants and Animals
Before preparing the
lesson plan all the teachers
can refer the teacher aided
scripts (TAS) supplied by
RO for the over view of
planning.

Petroleum conservation
GIST OF THE LESSON Learning about Renewable and Non renewable sources of energy, petroleum and petroleum by products and their
uses. And also learning about how to save petroleum products, how to minimize the pollution levels, avoiding
accidents by following traffic rules, use of alternative sources of energy to conserve petroleum etc..

Discovery of facts and skill To be able to understand the fact that if we do not use petroleum judiciously it will finish and the pollution levels
will increase.
To be able to develop sensitivity towards the environment and switch over to alternative sources of energy to
conserve petroleum.

RELATING WITH REAL LIFE SITUATION STRATEGY Use public transport, car pooling system, avoid use of vehicles to go to short distance, maintain your vehicles
properly, don’t honk un necessarily etc.
