Introduction
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the
network of physical devices, vehicles, home
appliances, and other items embedded with
electronics, software, sensors, actuators,
and connectivity which enables these things
to connect and exchange data, creating
opportunities for more direct integration of
the physical world into computer-based
systems, resulting in efficiency
improvements, economic benefits, and
reduced human exertions.
What is IoT?

 The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical

objects or "things" embedded with electronics, software,
sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects
to collect and exchange data
 IoT allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely
across existing network infrastructure creating opportunities
for more direct integration between the physical world and
computer-based systems, and resulting in improved
efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit.
Why IoT ?
• The Internet of Things(IoT) is the next
evolution of the Internet where device of all
types and capabilities are internet
accessible.
• IP-based web service will be the driving
force behind the global growth and demand
for the IoT.
Where is IoT ?
The IoT Market

As of 2013, 9.1 billion IoT units

Expected to grow to 28.1 billion IoT devices by

2020

Revneue growth from $1.9 trillion in 2013 to $7.1

trillion in 2020
Attacking IoT
Default, weak, and hardcoded credentials
Difficult to update firmware and OS
Lack of vendor support for repairing
vulnerabilities
Vulnerable web interfaces (SQL injection, XSS)
Coding errors (buffer overflow)
Clear text protocols and unnecessary open ports
DoS / DDoS
Physical theft and tampering
Technological challenges of IoT
At Present IoT is faced with many challenges, such as:
 Software Complexity
 Power Supply
 Wireless Communication
 Fault Tolerance
 Scalability
 Technological Standardization
Advantages of IoT
• IoT network benefits not one but all i.e.
individuals, society, stake holders of businesses
etc. due to the fact that IoT network saves time
and money.
• IoT is used in asset and individual tracking,
inventory control, energy conservation, shipping
etc.
• IoT concept is used in home security devices
which are monitored and controlled either locally
or remotely using easy to use applications
available on mobile phones or smartphones.
Disadvantages of IoT
• Compatibility: Currently, there is no
international standard of compatibility for the
tagging and monitoring equipment. ...
• Complexity: As with all complex systems, there
are more opportunities of failure. ...
• Privacy/Security: With all of this IoT data being
transmitted, the risk of losing privacy increases.
• Threat to Security: Almost every device
connected over the internet and data about
everything available in the system.
Conclusion
• IoT is a New World Order.
• It Connects objects and make them “talk
to each other” and Share information
among themselves and use that
information for action.
• A new world of smart devices will make
human life easier.
