Introduction
• Solid waste management is one of the major environmental concern.
• Millions of scrap tires (approximately 3.6 million tons) are
generated each year because of rapid growth of automobile industry.
• solution we proposed to solve the problem-

“Use of waste tyre rubber as

aggregate in concrete”

• The use of waste tyre crumbed

rubber which is available in large
amount as alternative to aggregate
in concrete because of scarcity of
the fine aggregate like natural
sand.
Objectives
• Use of waste tyre crumb rubber particle (WTCRP) as a partial
replacement to fine aggregate in concrete at varying percentages
from 0%, 7%, 9% to check the compressive strength of concrete.
• Comparison of strength of cube.
Work methodology

• Geometric dimensions of specimens

Eight steel hollow structural sections (HSS) are used to encase
concrete as cubes.
Three sets of the twelve cubes are used to prepare cubes specimens.
• Material properties
Crumbed rubber concrete is used as in-fill for steel cubes.
High-range water-reducing admixture and water is added to dry
materials in a rotating drum mixer to produce CRC.

Effects of surface texture of rubber particles
1. Rougher the rubber particles better the bonding higher the
compressive strength .
2. To adhesive enhanced adhesion ,it is necessary to treated the rubber.
3. Pre treatments vary from merely washing rubber particles with
water .
Impact resistance heat and sound insulation
 The impact resistance of concrete and ability to absorb energy and
insulate sound during impact increased were rubber aggregates are
added to the mixtures .
 Flammability of rubber in rubcrete mixtures
Uses of Rubcrete Concrete Mix

1. Where vibrations damping is needed (i.e. rail station)

2. Where resistance to impact or blast is required such as railway
buffers, jersey barriers and bunkers .
3. Light unit weight suitable for architectural works.
4. Shock absorber .
5. Sound insulation .
6. Also in building as an earthquakes shock wave absorber .

CONCLUSION

• According to result, test conducted as in crumbed rubber

replace by fine aggregate at 5% strength of specimen is
increased.

• At 7% strength of specimen is decreases as compare to 5%,

also we observed at 7% strength of specimen has equal to the
normal concrete specimen.

• Hence, we conclude that upto 5% we have scope to replace

the fine aggregate with crumbed rubber.
