Immersive Reader is an application created by Microsoft that
utilizes proven techniques to improve reading and writing for
people regardless of their age or ability. WHAT IS
IMMERSIVE
Immersive reader can aid in the following:
READER?
• Improve reading comprehension
• Increase fluency for English Language Learners and struggling
readers
• Help build confidence for emerging readers learning to read at
higher level
• Offer text decoding solutions for readers with learning
disabilities such as dyslexia
HOW TO ENABLE IMMERSIVE READER
1. Within OneNote open your selected text document
2. Click ‘View’
3. Click ‘Immersive Reader’
 USING IMMERSIVE READER
Available Functions:
• Adjust Text Options
• Change size of text
• Adjust spacing; reduce crowding between letters
• Switch font
• Change the background color

• Grammar options
• Control grammar/parts of speech highlighting of complex sentences (nouns, verbs,
adjective, adverbs)

• Reading Preferences
• Line focus—narrow the focus of the reading experience by opting to have either sets
of one, three, or five lines highlighted at a time
• Picture dictionary—ability to click any word within your text and have it read aloud
with an associated graphic
• Translate– allows you to change the language of the text you’re reading

• Voice options
• Control the voice speed and speaking voice
NAVIGATE TO TEXT OPTIONS
In the top right hand corner you can click on the ‘A’ icon to open your text options

Once expanded, you can see the different options that you can adjust

Spacing

Font

Background
color

In the top right hand corner you can click on the ‘lines’ icon to open your grammar options

Emphasize
syllables

NAVIGATE TO READING PREFERENCES
In the top right hand corner you can click on the ‘book’ icon to open your reading preferences
ADJUST READING PREFERENCES
Once expanded, you can see the different options that you can adjust Adjust reading sets
