PERCENT

DEFINITION
PERCENT is a way of expressing a number of a
fraction of 100.
To find the percent of a number, convert the percent into
a decimal number by moving the decimal point two
places to the left then multiply this decimal number to the
given number

- The part considered in its quantitative relation to the whole, In other words, it is the
part of the whole and the number being compared to another number (base)
BASE
- Refers to the number of which a certain number of hundredths is taken.
- The number generally preceded by words “of”, “as much”, “as large as”, “as many
as” and “great as” also, it is regarded as the WHOLE
RATE
-Refers to the number of hundredths taken. It is the result of comparing a number
(percentage which is regarded as the portion of part) to another number (base which is
regarded as the whole). It can be expressed in percent, decimal or fraction

and the denominator is whole. Simplify the fraction if
possible then convert the decimal to percent.

establishments. If Norma, a 72-year old woman was a
receipt that amounted to Php 645.80, How much was the

4. A mocha latte sells at a regular price of Php 180.
Because the coffee shop has an anniversary treat today,
they sell the latte for only Php 80. Find the percent of
decrease in the price?
5. The senior citizens enjoy 20% discount and another
12% discount after the 20% discount on the medicines
prescribed by their doctors. An insulin costs Php 1200,
and an elderly insists that she will only pay Php 816. Is
the elderly correct?
