BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The advent of social media has impacted significantly on how students learn and the
mode instructors teach. In today higher education settings, social media has influence
instructors, students, and others to cooperate with each other on the tasks of knowledge
construction in learning and teaching environments. Social media applications can strengthen
class material and positively influence discussions collaborative work and authoring.
Educators and researchers are constantly experimenting with social media technologies
hoping to stimulate critical thinking skills, collaboration, and knowledge construction.

Objectives of the study


The researcher’s goal is to know the impact of social media on the academic
performance of ICT students in Arellano University Main Campus.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM


This study implement the different impacts of social media to an ICT Students in Arellano
University Main.
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
This research focuses on the impact of social media on academic performance of ICT
student in AU main campus and aims to know the impacts of social media on the daily academic
life of ICT students and how it helps every ICT students

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY


This study aims to explain the importance of proper usage of social media. It explains
the impacts and purposes of social media on the academic life of ICT students in Arellano
University Main Campus.The outcome reconstruct their attitude regarding the use of social
media. It will also push people further to identify the exciting opportunities social media add to
human and student life as a whole.

THIS RESEARCH IS ABOUT THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA TO ICT


STUDENTS OF ARELLANO UNIVERSITY MAIN CAMPUS. AS SOCIAL MEDIA
TAKES OVER THE WORLD WITH ITS FASCINATING FEATURES AND HELP PEOPLE
BY GIVING FAST INFORMATION THERE ARE ALSO SOME NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF
IT ALONGSIDE WITH THE POSITIVE.

Introduction
This chapter deals with the research methodology of the study, including the research
design, setting, population and data-collection instrument.

Research Design
The researchers chose the Phenomenological Design to be applied in their study.

Research Instrument
The instrument that the researchers chose to be used in this study is the individual
interview. This is a method that allows the interviewer to study or examine the interviewee’s
attitude, beliefs and experiences on a certain phenomenon or situation. The researchers chose
this method based to the need of being able to interact with the interviewee and to collect their
ideas or experiences regarding to the effects of social media on their academic life.

Respondents of the study


The researchers chose three ICT students from grade 11 and grade 12.

QUESTIONS: INTERPRETATIONS:
1. How much time do you spend on social In answering the question number 1, all of the
media activities each day? For what reason interviewees’ shared same answers/ explanations
do you use it? on how much time do they spend using social
media and the reasons why do they use it. They
all answered that they use social media for almost
5-6 hours daily and the rationale why they use
social media is for educational purposes.

2. How does social media affects your In question number 2 the interviewees’ had their
academic life? different answers. Using social media affects
them in a positive and negative way. Some says
that it improves their skills in programming as they
use it for educational purposes, some says that
using social media up until late nights results to
negative effects like being lazy to do their
assignments, being absent in school, etc.
3. How does social media improves your The interviewees shared same responses in answering
academic life or performances? question number 3. They all gave positive feedbacks in
using social media. The interviewees’ agreed that
social media really improves their life academically and
socially. They have gained confidence and find that
social media is a quick access for their activities.

4. How will you avoid overusing social media? In avoiding spending too much time in social media the
interviewees mostly answered that they will reduce the
time they are spending and focuses in outdoor
activities. They also stated that finding another hobby
is an effective way to avoid overusing social media.

5. How important do you think social media time In terms of time management the interviewees respond
management is? that time management is really an important thing in
using social media. They stated that to manage their
time, important thing comes first. Time management
can also as help them to have time for themselves and
improve on their own.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

• GENERALLY, THIS CHAPTER AIMS TO SUM-UP THE WHOLE OUTCOME OF THE STUDY TO
DETERMINE THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA TO THE ICT STUDENTS OF ARELLANO
UNIVERSITY JUAN SUMULONG CAMPUS.
CONCLUSIONS

• QUESTIONNAIRE SHEET FOR THEM TO ANSWER; AS A RESULT MANY OF THEM


ARE SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME USING SOCIAL MEDIA IN AN IMPORTANT
MATTERS.
