FUELS
Fuels power our lifestyle and drive the nations economy.
A matreial that is burnt to produce energy, power or heat.
Energy mostly from fuels allows us to heat homes , power
factories and transportation system.
CLASSIFICATION OF FUELS

SOLID LIQUID GASEOUS

e.g. e.g. e.g.
Wood, coal crude oil natural gas
COAL(BLACK GOLD)
Coal is an important energy mineral.
a strategic resource, essential for a modern quality
of life.
Coal is abundant, affordable and geographically well-
distributed fuel, as an essential input in the production of
fuel.
Coal is least efficient, unhealthiest and most
enviourmentally damaging fuel but could make a
comeback, as supplies are still plentiful.
COAL PRODUCTION IN INDIA

India ranks third among the coal production countries of

the world.
From 2007 to 2013, a total of 298.914 billion tonnes of
geological resources of the coal have been estimated in
India.
Major coal bearing states in India include Jharkhand,
Orissa, Chhattisgarah, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and
Andhra Pradesh.
WORLD’S COAL PRODUCTION
OIL AND NATURAL GAS
Energy for –
 Transportation(Gasoline, diesel fuel)
 Power plant
 Industry and household(CNG, LPG)
Raw materials for –
 Plastic and polymer
 Basic chemical substance
 Petrochemical product
Infrastructure –
 Asphalt
OIL PRODUCTION IN INDIA
India had about 125 million metric
tonne of proven oil reserves as 2014
report.
The second largest amount in the Asia –
Pacific region behind China.
Most of India’s crude oil reserves
located in the western coast(Bombay
high) and in the northeastern part of
country.
India’s oil sector dominated by state
owned enterprises.
NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION IN
INDIA
As per the Ministry of petroleum, Goverment of India,
India has 1.437 billion cubic meters of confirmed natural
gas reserves as of april 2014.
A huge mass of India’s natural gas production comes from
the western offshore regions, particularly the Bombay
High Complex.
The onshore fields in Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and gujrat
states are also major producers of natural gas.
ONGC and OIL are the leading companies with respect to
production volume.
WORLD’S OIL & GAS PRODUCTION
IMPORTANCE OF FUEL IN
MODERN ECONOMY
The economic developement of any country largely
depends upon its industrial progress..........
And the industrial developement of any country largely
depends upon its possesing a sufficiently large stock of
this most valuable mineral product.
Coal is regarded as backbone of power generation in
India.Power is essential and most important factor for
industrial and business set up.
India’s coal position is quite encouraging and it offers
good prospects for the developement of the industry.
The oil and gas industry forms the engine of the world’s
economy.
The diverse use of oil and gas and their direct links to the
economic and social wellbeing the demand for these
commodities continues to grow as income rise and
population expand in most developing countries.
Gas plays a fundamental role in economic growth and
developement, with a greater contribution to the
generation of electricity.
Oil and gas has large impacts in Geopolitics.
WHAT IS STEEL...????

Steel is an alloy of iron and

other elements,primarily
carbon.
The carbon content of steel
is between 0.002% and 2.1%
by weight.
It is used in construction and
other application because of
its high strength and low
cost.
TYPES OF STEEL

1) Carbon steel –
a) Low carbon steel-0.04%-0.30%
b) Medium carbon steel-0.31%-0.60%
c) High carbon steel-0.61%-1.50%
2) Alloy steel – carbon steel with alloy
elements(Ni, Mn..)
3) Stainless steel – cr(10-20%)
4) Tool steel – steel contains W, Mo, Co, V.
STEEL PRODUCTION IN INDIA
Steel industry is one of the major
industries of India.
India ranks 5th in the world
ranking for production of steel.
Projected to become the world’s
second largest producer 2015-
2016.
India produced 66.8 million tonnes
in 2010-11, while at the top of the
list, produced 626.7 million
tonnes.
WORLD STEEL PRODUCTION
the result of strong
economic growth, as
demand for infrastructure,
products and services, and
transportation systems
increases.
The total steel production
for the 66 countries
reporting to World Steel
Industry in 2016 was
estimated to be 120 million
tonnes.
STEEL AS A BACKBONE OF
MODERN ECONOMY
Steel was the key of Industrial revoloution: transport,
construction, power generation, machinery.
Most widely used material in modern society thanks to its
unique combination of strength, formability and
versatility.
Steel is a key material needed for industrialization and
urbanization, hence strongly associated with status of a
nation’s economy.
Steel industry is a barometer of the economic health of
nation.
CONCLUSION

Think “value”, not just volume

Think sustainability
