“fuzzy logic”
“One of our most impressive innovations”
fuzzy logic
a multi-valued (as opposed to binary) LOGIC. Classical
logic holds that everything can be expressed in binary
terms: 0 or 1, black or white, yes or no; in terms of
BOOLEAN ALGEBRA, everything is in one set or
another but not in both. Fuzzy logic allows for values
between 0 and 1, shades of gray, and maybe; it allows
partial membership in a set. When the approximate
reasoning of fuzzy logic is used with an EXPERT
SYSTEM, logical inferences can be drawn from
imprecise relationships. It is used, for example, to
optimize automatically the wash cycle of a washing
machine by sensing the load size, fabric mix, and
quantity of detergent. Fuzzy logic is used to control
passenger elevators, household appliances, cameras,
automobile subsystems, and SMART WEAPONS.

Comparing System Quality
A system is only as good as the quality of its components.
System Quality
• No firewall
• No number or color markings on pilot hoses
and wiring
System Quality
320C SK210(LC)-VI
• Maintenance free batteries • Requires electrolyte level check every 50 service
• Good ground level access hours
– 12 openings = 15 minutes for maintenance
• Simple hard plastic covers are fastened
by one bolt in the center • Requires maintenance every 250 service hours
• Excellent access to the batteries • Access through storage box from track
with the covers removed • Potential damage to top
• Raised air filter provides better clearance
Fuel System
320C SK210(LC)-VI
•Priming pump raised to provide easy access •Difficult to access because priming pump is located
and operation near the bottom of the engine
•This improvement gives the 320C a substantial •Operation requires removal of access covers
advantage over all of the competition •Fuel filter requires initial replacement at 50 hours
•Fuel system injection pressure and nozzles must be
•Priming pump strainer 500 hour maintenance checked every 500 service hours by the dealer
eliminated •Fuel priming pump strainer must be checked
•Fuel filter initial 100 hour interval eliminated initially at 50 service hours and every 500 service
hours
Swing Out Oil Cooler
320C SK210(LC)-VI
•Single handle operation without tools •Requires tools
•Provides great access to oil cooler and •Oil cooler does not swing
radiator •Requires cover removal from the bottom of
•Maintenance is done from ground level the machine
when required •Requires cleaning every 50 service hours
•Coolant must be changed every 6000 with pressurized water
service hours •Coolant must be changed every 2000 service
hours
Hydraulic System and Filtration
320C SK210(LC)-VI
•Case drain and pilot oil filters are easily •No case drain filter
removed from ground level •No oil sampling valve or pressure tap
•Oil sampling valve and pressure tap •Element type filter requiring separate O-ring
provided •Requires maintenance every 500 service
•Requires maintenance every 1000 hours
service hours
Water Pump
320C SK210(LC)-VI
•Requires no lubrication •Difficult to access because of
location and hose routing
•Requires maintenance at
initial 50 service hours and
after every 500 service hours
Lubrication Points
320C SK210(LC)-VI
•Bank of fittings on boom •Bank of fittings on boom
•Requires daily maintenance for first 100 •Requires complete machine lubrication
service hours every 8 service hours
•Requires maintenance every 1000
service hours for boom and stick
•Requires maintenance every 100 service
hours for bucket pins
Swing Gear Lubrication
320C SK210(LC)-VI
•Easier access between hoses •Restricted access between boom base and upper
•Requires maintenance every 2000 service frame
hours •Requires maintenance at initial 50 service hours
•Requires maintenance every 120 service hours
•Replacement of grease required every 2000
service hours
•Procedure requires splitting the upper and lower
machine sections
Engine Air Filters
320C SK210(LC)-VI
•Clamps provide easy cover removal •Wing-nuts on primary and secondary
•Primary and secondary filters pull out filters cause lengthy removal process
(without fasteners) •Requires inspection every 8 service
hours (daily)
•Replacement of air filters every 1000
service hours
Engine Oil Filter
320C SK210(LC)-VI
•Filter and dipstick easy to access due to •Difficult to access
raised position •Low in engine compartment near the
•Easy access on top of engine turbocharger
•Filter drain and sampling valve provided on •Requires oil and filter change every 500
filter base service hours
•Requires oil and filter change every 500 •Requires special tool
service hours •Requires the removal of lower covers
Final Drive Procedures
320C SK210(LC)-VI
•Oil level check interval extended to 1000 •Oil level check interval is every 120
service hours service hours with an initial 50 hour
check
•Oil change interval is every 2000 service
hours with an initial 250 hour change •Oil change interval is every 2000
service hours with an initial 500 hour
•Final drive utilizes 2 plugs for all
change
procedures
Cooling System Service
320C SK210(LC)-VI
•Visual check of coolant level from ground level •Visual check of coolant level from ground
•Factory fill Extended Life Coolant lasts 6000 level
service hours •Requires coolant change and system flush
every 2000 service hours
•Procedure requires the removal of the radiator
Sampling Valves and Test Ports
320C SK210(LC)-VI
•Sampling valves and test ports •No sampling valves or test ports
provided provided for engine oil, hydraulic oil,
or coolant
A/C Receiver-dryer
320C SK210(LC)-VI
•New location lowered dryer for viewing •Difficult to view sight glass on dryer due
purposes to location
•Location was also moved very near the • Requires mounting the machine or use
door opening for easier access a ladder (step) in order to view sight
glass
•All maintenance can be performed from
the ground
Undercarriage Components
320C SK210(LC)-VI
•Regular maintenance only •Requires daily maintenance on the
•Check for debris sprockets
•Adjust the tension •Requires maintenance every 2000
service hours
•Oil must be changed in all rollers and
idlers
•Components must be removed, drained,
and filled
