WHY WE NEED NON-CONVENTIONAL
SOURCES?
 Man began to use the wind for sailing ships and for driving windmills, and the
force of falling water to turn water for sailing ships and for driving windmills, and
the force of falling water to turn water wheels.
 The sun was supplying all the energy needs of man either directly or indirectly
and that man was using only renewable sources of energy.
 Non-conventional energy using foot step needs no fuel input power to generate
the output of the electrical power.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NON-
CONVENTIONAL & RENEWABLE SOURCES?

 Non-conventional energy is energy that is renewable and ecologically safe, such

as solar, tidal, wind, biomass, hydrogen, fuel cell power, etc.
 The energy sources are exposed to use from modern technological advancements;
rather than the normal use of conventional fuels as energy sources like gas or oil.
 Renewable energy comes from non-ending resources. which makes them the
same.
TYPES OF TECHNICS FOR FOOT-STEP
POWER GENERATION
 There are different type of technics used to generate power using FOOT-STEP.
1. Using RACK & PINION method.
2. Using ELECTRO MAGNETIC INDUCTION method.
3. FSEC (FOOT STEP ENERGY CONVERSION) device.
4. Using PIEZOELECTRIC SENSOR.
RACK & PINION METHOD

A rack and pinion is a

type of linear
actuator that comprises a
pair of gears which
convert rotational
motion into linear
motion.
Rotational motion
applied to the pinion
causes the rack to move
relative to the pinion,
thereby translating the
rotational motion of the

to generate the power.
The pushing power is converted
into electrical energy by proper
driving arrangement.

the foot steps/speed breaker.
ELECTRO MAGNETIC INDUCTION
 The magnetic flux developed around the coil being proportional to the amount of
current flowing in the coils windings. If additional layers of wire are wound upon the
same coil with the same current flowing through them, the static magnetic field strength
would be increased.
 Therefore, the magnetic field strength of a coil is determined by the ampere turns of the
coil. With more turns of wire within the coil the greater will be the strength of the static
magnetic field around it.
 But what if we reversed this idea by disconnecting the electrical current from the coil
and instead of a hollow core we placed a bar magnet inside the core of the coil of wire.
 By moving this bar magnet “in” and “out” of the coil a current would be inducted into
the coil by the physical movement of the magnetic flux inside it.
 Likewise, if we kept the bar magnet stationary and moved the coil back and forth within
the magnetic field an electric current would be induced in the coil.
 Then by either moving the wire or changing the magnetic field we can induce a voltage
and current within the coil and this process is known as Electromagnetic Induction.
ELECTRO MAGNETIC INDUCTION

when force is applied on the plate by virtue on stamping on the plate the spring gets
compressed.
The magnet fixed at the top plate hit the copper coil fixed at bottom plate and emf is
induced in the copper coil.
The generated voltage is stored in the battery.

FSEC DEVICE
 This device can convert foot impact
energy into electrical form.
 When a pedestrian steps on the top plate
of the device, the plate will dip down
slightly due to the weight of the
pedestrian.
 The downward movement of the plate
results in rotation of the shaft of an
electrical alternator, fitted in the device,
to produce electrical energy.
 The top plate reverts back to its original
position due to negating springs
provided in the device.
PIEZOELECTRIC SENSOR

• The control mechanism carries the

piezoelectric sensor, A.C ripples
neutralizer, unidirectional current
controller and 12V, 1.3Amp lead
acid dc rechargeable battery and an
inverter is used to drive AC/DC
loads.
• The battery is connected to the
inverter. This inverter is used to
convert the 12 Volt D.C to the 230
Volt A.C.
• This 230 Volt A.C voltage is used
to activate the Loads.
Procedure
As soon as we will keep our foot
, the crystal material will start its
work and the buzzer will give
notification,the multimeter will
show reading whether the crystal
material is conducted or not.We
also use a battery and weight
measurment unit for better
demonstration of the system.The
amplifier will amplify and will
convert into DC current by
which the battery will charge
and the LED will glow for a
better demonstration.
