RATIONALE OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IN THE EARLY
YEARS
• RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IS THE FIRST LEARNING AREA IN THE CATHOLIC SCHOOL CURRICULUM (CEWA, 2018).
• THE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM AIMS TO HELP STUDENTS LEARN THE TEACHINGS OF THE GOSPEL AS
PROCLAIMED BY THE CATHOLIC CHURCH (CEWA, 2018).
• DEVELOP A SENSE OF NATURE OF CHRISTIANITY AND HOW CHRISTIANS LIVE THEIR LIVES (CEWA, 2018).
• RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS ALWAYS RESPECTS PARENTS AS THE PRIME EDUCATORS OF THEIR
CHILDREN, IN PARTICULAR THE AREA OF FAITH EDUCATION (CEWA, 2018).
• SCHOOLS WORK CLOSELY WITH PARENTS/ GUARDIANS AND PARISHES TO SUPPORT SACRAMENTAL
PROGRAMS (CEWA, 2018).
OVERVIEW OF UNIT OF WORK

• FOCUSSES ON THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM.


• WONDERING ABOUT GOD WHO CREATED EVERY PERSON DIFFERENT AND SPECIAL.
• GOD CREATED EVERYONE DIFFERENT AND THROUGH THIS, GOD CAN BE DISCOVERED.
• JESUS SHOWS THAT ALL PEOPLE ARE SPECIAL TO GOD.
• JESUS WANTS HIS FOLLOWERES TO USE THEIR SPECIALNESS TO SHOW LOVE TO ONE
ANOTHER AND THEMESELVES.
• THROUGH KINDESS AND LOVE PEOPLE SHOW THEIR SPECILANESS THAT GOD CREATED.
ENVIRONMENT THAT SUPPORTS LEARNING

• LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS THAT ARE WELCOMING, RESPECT AND ENRICH THE LIVES AND
IDENTITIES OF THE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES PARTICIPATING IN THE SETTING (DEEWR, 2009).
• REFLECTS CHILDREN'S INTERESTS AND NEEDS (DEEWR, 2009).
• VIBRANT AND FLEXIBLE SPACES THAT ARE RESPONSIVE TO ABILITIES (DEEWR, 2009).
• OPEN ENDED SPACES PROMOTING INTERACTIONS, SPONTANITY, RISK-TAKING, EXPLORATION,
DISCOVERY AND CONNECTION WITH NATURE (DEEWR, 2009).
• INDOOR AND OUTDOOR ENVIORNEMNTS SUPPORTED EQUALLY (DEEWR, 2009).
• WHEN CHILDREN HAVE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES THEY DEVELOP A SENSE OF BELONGING (DEEWR,
2009).
HOW THE UNIT WILL BE TAUGHT

• INTRODUCING THE CHILDREN TO SCRIPTURE AND BIBLE STORIES THROUGH GODLY PLAY.
• INVOLVING THE CHILDREN IN SONG AND MOVEMENT.
• GIVING THANKS TO GOD FOR CREATING ALL CHILDREN SPECIAL AND UNIQUE IN THEIR OWN WAY.
• INCORPORATING CHILDREN'S CREATIVITY THROUGH POSTERS, JOURNALS, CREATING STORIES AND ART WORK.
• HAVING FUN WHILST PLAYING GAMES THAT PROMOTE EACH CHILD'S SPECIALNESS AND HOW TO
DEMONSTRATE THOSE SPECIAL QUALITIES WITH THEIR FRIENDS.
• INTERACTIONS WITH ONE ANOTHER THROUGH ACTIVITIES AND REFLECTION.
• INCORPORATING THE LEARNING INTO OTHER LEARNING AREAS IN THE CURRICULUM WHILST FOSTERING
CREATIVITY.
