INTRODUCTION
Diet survey is usually done by
following methods-
i. Weighment method:
a) Raw food
b) Cooked food
ii. Oral questionnaire method:
a) Last 24 hours recall method
b) One week recall method
iii. Stock inventory method
The 24 hour recall/oral questionnaire method has certain
fallacies –
-There can be a fast observed in the previous 24 hours
hence, Restricted food consumption.
-There may be a feast celebrated in the previous 24 hours
Hence, increased and atypical food consumption.
-The method depends on the subject’s ability to recall from
memory all that he/she has eaten in the previous 24 hours
hence, it may not be accurate.
-There may be day to day variation in the food
consumption.
-Some members of the family may be following restricted
diets due to certain illnesses.

The energy required by an adult male doing

sedentary work is taken as 1CU and coefficients
for other individuals is worked on the basis of
calorie requirement relative to that of sedentary
man.

[1CU= 2320 Kcal]
