Definition of urine
Urine is a fluid that is excreted by the kidneys
which is then removed from the body through
the process of urination. Urinary excretion is
needed to remove the remaining body
molecules. However, there are also several
species that use urine as a means of olfactory
communication. Urine is filtered in the kidney,
carried through the ureter to the baldder,
eventually discharged out of the body through
the uretra.
Urine Composition
Urine consists of water with dissolved material in the form
of metabolic waste (such as urea), dissolved salt, and
organic matter. Fluid and urine forming material come from
blood or interstitial fluid. The composition of urine changes
throughout the reabsorption process when molecules that
are important to the body, such as glucose, are reabsorbed
into the body through carrier molecules. The remaining
liquid contains high levels of urea and various excess or
potentially toxic compounds that will be removed from the
body. The material contained in urine can be known
through urinalysis. Diabetes is a disease that can be
detected by urine. The urine of a diabetic person will
contain sugar that will not be found in the urine of a
healthy person.
