What is X-Ray Florescence

• XRF excites the atoms with a bombardment of X-rays. In return, the atoms emit x-
rays characteristic of the chemical element at an amplitude that corresponds to the
mass of the chemical element in the sample. XRF spectrometers are commonly
calibrated to report the concentrations of the reported elements present in parts per
million (ppm).

• Commercial XRF spectrometers, like television sets and computer monitors, are
designed to be operated safely without any requirement for radiation certification of
the operator, although familiarization instruction should be provided by the Original
Equipment Manufacturers (OEM). The x-rays emitted by the x-ray tube within the
spectrometer are extinguished when electrical power is removed.

• The unit requires infrequent maintenance since it has no moving parts. The
instruments themselves are robust, require little in the way of alignment, and are
easily calibrated

SEA-Mate® Blender Objectives

• To remove and re-use the system oil in the main engine before its
condition deteriorates
• Improves main engine lubrication and condition

• System oil is used as the base fluid for blending variable TBN
cylinder oil onboard through the use of an approved additive
package
• Creates flexibility in operation and provides an optimal cylinder
lubricant for all fuel sulfur levels and operational environments

PRIVILEGED & CONFIDENTIAL!

SEA-Mate® B2000 Blender

SEA-Mate® Blender Benefits

• Allows for custom blending of cylinder lubricant to meet operational

conditions and potentially in the future, alternative environmentally
friendly fuels
– No need for two cylinder oils to be stored onboard, ie: high and low BN
depending on fuel sulfur used

• Offers the operator full flexibility to optimize cylinder oil feed-rate for all
operational parameters
– Engine load, fuel sulfur, intake air humidity, liner condition etc….
– Reduces unwanted deposits on the piston and turbo-charger blades
resulting from excessive ash in high additive cylinder oil
– At lower BN levels, reduces net amount of particulate emissions

SEA-Mate® B2000 Blender

SEA-Mate® Blender Additional Benefits

• Eliminates need to purchase more expensive commercial cylinder oil

• Create cost savings by optimizing consumption of cylinder oil additive

• Because SAE 50 viscosity grade requires commercial cylinder oil to be blended

with expensive thickeners, using system oil is more cost effective

• Cylinder oils typically contain high viscosity base stocks that reduce thermal
stability and increase deposit formation and engine wear, blended oil has
significantly less of these high viscosity components

• Improved bearing lubrication due to regular replenishment of system oil, thus

improving engine efficiency resulting in potentially lower fuel consumption

• Offers greater supply security in the event of raw material shortages (as
experienced in 2005)

Effect of Replenishment of System Oil - Sump Clean-Up

Before starting blending onboard; crankcase with After 60 MT of system oil being used to blend
deposits on sump walls and floating on top of the cylinder oil the crankcase shows definite signs of
system oil. clean-up. Deposits easily removed with a dry cloth
with minimal pressure.

Blending Onboard Field Test Overview

Blending Onboard Test Overview

• Mindanao Power Plant – 3 year evaluation on blended oil using XOM additive concentrate and system
oil
– Inspected by MAN Diesel and determined to have satisfactory results
– MAN Diesel Letter of No Objection issued on 13 Dec. 2007 covering concept and XOM’s 70 BN blended product

• A.P. Moller – Test started April 2008

– Blending XOM additive
– Finished blend 60 BN
– Average load during test = 70%
– Alpha-SIP lubricators
– 2K hour results showed some erratic results
– Vessel mutually determined to be problematic as a test vessel based on historical performance
– Vessel removed from official test program however, MFT-I to continue to monitor

• Skagen Maersk – Test Started March 2008

– Vessel was instructed to install new rings on test cylinders at start of test but did not do it due to miscommunication
– Blending XOM additive
– Desired blend 60 BN, however, C/E blended 80 BN without authorization and used same for 500 hours
– Average load during test = 70%
– Alpha SIP lubricators
– Scrapedown analysis very consistent throughout test
– Initial inspection, 2K hour inspection and 4K hour inspection conducted by MAN Diesel

Overview of Status of Major Oil Companies

• ExxonMobil
– 70 BN formulation approved
– 60 BN formulation under test on Skagen Maersk (6K hour inspection conducted 1/15 / 2009 in TTP)
– 50 BN formulation test to be scheduled

• BP
– 70 BN formulation under test Soroe Maersk
– 60 BN formulation to be evaluated on Soroe Maersk after 2K hours
– Low viscosity CLO test in process on S.L. Champion
• Currently running at 15.2 cSt with excellent results
• Scrapedown results continue to be well within limits (<150 ppm Fe)
• Plan is to go down to 14.5 cSt next month

• PetroChina
– PetroChina currently working on additive candidate
– Testing to begin as soon as formulation has passed a battery of bench tests

• Shell, Total, Texaco

– Limited discussions thus far
– Interest is growing as these companies hear more about the blending onboard concept
– MFT-I would welcome all above companies to develop their own additive package for BoB, however, XOM. BP and
PC will be more than sufficient to supply the global demand

72
Managing Customer Expectations

• 2009 additive supplies limited to select ports, namely Rotterdam, Hong Kong,
and Singapore. Additional ports to follow
• Additive packages are to be provided by the oil majors, i.e. ExxonMobil and BP
in 2009; this may change in 2010, either to include additional oil majors or
additive to be provided by an additive manufacturer directly
• 2009 lead time for SEA-Mate® products is 90 days minimum
• Typical product delivery includes ‘turn key’ installation, commissioning and
training
• At present, offer does not include data interpretation and operational advice
• Consumables (sample materials) will sold by PrimeServ as spare parts

Overview of Status of Major OEMs

• MAN Diesel
– Has had high interest in concept since early 1990’s
– Initial program with Mobil Oil to develop automated sampling system cancelled by XOM in 2001
– Very supportive in cooperative testing of blender and analyzer at Mindanao Power Plant
– Cooperative testing with APM-M and MFT-I on container ships started in early 2008
– Letter of No Objection pending review of 6K hour test inspection from Skagen Maersk
– PrimeServ saw opportunity to add SEA-Mate® technology to product offer
– Strategic agreement signed between MFT-I and MAN Diesel in December 2008
– PrimeServ given exclusive rights to market the technology to all engines regardless of manufacturer
– Japanese market excluded for direct sales but is available for blender installation

• Wärtsilä
– Very positive about the SEA-Mate® concept since 2002
– Sales and Service group desired to have similar agreement as the PrimeServ deal
– Commercial terms demanded by Wärtsilä were not acceptable due to more favorable economics vs PrimeServ
– Testing on Wärtsilä vessel terminated after 2K hours due to catastrophic cat fine damage
– Testing of low viscosity PB product continues on S.L. Champion
– New test to start following meeting on 1/29/2009

• Mitsubishi
– Very positive regarding concept based on meetings in 2008
– No test performed yet on Mitsubishi powered vessel
